Jerry Orbach in a Silver Jumpsuit

My furnace has been coming on! It’s the end of May, and we need heat to keep the house habitable! For the record, the thermostat is set at 62, so that’s how chilly it is in here. And it’s raining, which makes the chill just cling to one’s bones.

Who stole my spring?!?!?

On a happier note, I’m officially green-badged, and tomorrow I can start moving into my new cubicle. Dunno how long it’ll be before I get my computer - there were 17 or 18 of us in the briefings. But since I’m taking Friday off, it doesn’t much matter. Tomorrow, I’ll get all settled in and next week, I’ll whine about not having a computer. After a nice, long 4-day break.

Meanwhile, we’re going out to dinner tonight, and I’ve got to stop at an eyeglasses place because the little thingie that rests on the right side of my nose is broken. I was messing with it and I kinda sorta tore the protective cover off the bottom part, and now a hard metal edge is against my delicate nasal skin. I’ve spent most of the day fidgiting with my specs. So one way or another, they’ll get fixed tonight.

Swampy, you must have had the same eye problem Mr. Taters had last Friday…he just couldn’t see himself going in to work. :stuck_out_tongue:

I have been running queries and ad hocs. BOOOOOOORRRRRRING!

I’m supposed to meet the hubby and kids out at the lake after work. I dunno, we’ll see how I feel at 4:30.

Tupug, you go girl! I’m sure you’ll do just fine on the phone interview.

I have Friday off, assuming I’m all done with this datacall. I’m not telling the hubby because I’ll need to clean the house due to the guests for the Friday night BBQ. The kids are off too, so I’m going to press them into service to help. They’ll just really love me that day.

Fear not, Mom. 50 something today; mid 70s tomorrow.

I think it went really well. At least the interviewer told me he’d be in touch in the next day or two to set up a face-to-face. WHAT AM I GOING TO WEAR??? I haven’t worn a suit in at least ten years. I have a couple but I think they are probably out of style and too big to boot. Do women even wear suits to interviews anymore? I do have a nice dress. Would that work? :stuck_out_tongue: :stuck_out_tongue:

swampy, SLACKER!!! (I keed!)

fcm, I only borrryed it! For Memorial Day Weekend. I’ll give it back on Tuesday. It’s 82 degrees and sunny here right now.

You guys are just mean, rubbing your coolth in my face. It’s 110 or so today, so I think we have your spring FCM, and then some. Sorry about that, I didn’t know you were using it.

Yay, everybody who needs it!

Swampy, just what does kinky sickly grass look like?

I see a forecast for 70s and more rain than sun for the next 10 days. Our grass is gonna be hip high! Mowing will be interesting when and if it dries enough to get out and cut the lawn.

Tupug - I don’t want your old 82 degrees. Is love-bug season past yet?? :stuck_out_tongue:

60 ish (American) degrees here today which is just lovely. Much better than the baking hotness of the weekend.

I wanna call in sick but unfortunately I have to work this weekend (I worked out my schedule I am on call for every holiday we have this year…). However I am technically boss lady in charge at the moment as my boss is in Venezuala re-newing his visa so I can do what ever so pleases myself  I bought a grill on Monday and I need it put together so anyone who wants to come on over I have beer. Anyone… :crickets:…

You live in the middle of nowhere! How am I supposed to get to the middle of nowhere? Do I take a left at run over antelope and then a right by the brown grass that’s right next to that funny looking dirt patch?

Taters well you see that sage brush at the end of the dirt road, hang a left and go a couple three miles until you see the mail box, at the mail box keep going till you come to the Christmas tree lashed to the pipeline…now there should be a puddle right there if there is no puddle go through where the puddle should be and forge through the dried up creek until you hit the dead cow hopefully the howling wind hasn’t turned it around when you get to the dead cow hang a left then a right then another right until you get to the Y now this is the tricky part going either way will get you here but follow the antelope as they really do know the best way in but if it is muddy you might wanna take the right so you don’t have to chain up then…

At some point or another these have all appeared in directions to locations

So I have kinky sickly grass. What of it! :stuck_out_tongue: That should be kinda sickly, as in little patches that ain’t green but are gettin’ there cause of the extra water. Matter of fact, it’s being watered as I post. ACBG just left. I thawed out some burgers I had in the freezer and grilled em. I also made french fries. Hmm… that makes two more things I did today then. I’ve been a little busy for a slacker. Maybe I need a refresher course in slacking. I used to be good at it.

Yay on the good interview Puggy. Go buy a nice suit. You need a nice suit. Everybody should have a nice suit. ACBG now has two nice suits cause I picked em out for him last August. He had one suit that was like 12 years old! “But it still fits and it looks decent,” he said. “It’s twelve years old and you need a new suit to wear to your parents 60th wedding anniversary thing.” I said. So we went suit buying. I talked him into two because it was a good deal. It was such a good deal, I bought two suits even though I have several very nice suits, thank you very much. I also made him buy new shirts and new ties. I bought new shirts and new ties too. Gotta have new shirts and new ties if you have new suits! Of course Puggy won’t be wearing shirts and ties with her new suit. You should get a new suit.

-swampbear (I bought a new suit in March to wear to my niece’s wedding in April. I am so gay!)

Well, ems, I’d like to join you, but 1) I’m in seclusion till tomorrow due to the unexpectedly missing tooth AND (more importantly) 2) I get lost when streets aren’t laid out in nice neat grids, so the disappearing puddle and moving dead cow stuff pretty much guarantees I’d get lost. Maybe next time?

And Puggy, I’d go with a suit too. Unless the dress is really tailored.

GT

puggy, I’m glad your interview went well! I hope the real interview is even better. I know what you mean about the suit–I only have one, so if I get a follow-up interview, I got nothin’ to wear, and it’s usually not good to wear nothin’ to an interview. But it’s a very nice suit. I wish I could find another one like it, but I think it’s a fluke that someone actually made a suit this cool. It has a long skirt, and it looks vintage. Most suits make me look like a linebacker–why do they have to put in such huge shoulder pads? I thought big shoulders went out with the '80s.

FCM, I think we borrowed some of your spring. Sorry. We’ve had a lot of spring this year, not like some years where we go straight from winter to summer. If you want it back, you have to come to North Carolina.

I never got around to giving an update on my oh-so-exciting weekend. I took two days off work, so that was nice. I stopped by the Green Valley Book Fair, and I found a real gem–the Punk Rock Aerobics workout book! It’s fantastic. When things get slow around here and we need some entertainment, I’ll share some tidbits from this book. I actually have a friend who wants to do the Punk Rock Aerobics workout with me–have I ever mentioned I have some very cool friends? I’ve already told you all about the Gargoyle, so I won’t re-hash that all over again, but I still want the Gargoyle.

So my cousin got married on Saturday. I wasn’t looking forward to it, because I don’t like weddings, but it was really nice. I can’t believe my baby cousins are old enough to get married–how old does that make me?

My grandma looked very nice, dressed up in her favorite flowered dress and new pink sweater with pearl buttons and pearl earrings to match. The reception featured lots of cake, so I spent a good part of the rest of the weekend in a sugar coma. I spilled a whole cup of punch on the table, but I don’t think anybody really cared. I got to see a lot of my relatives, and it was nice to get together for a wedding for a change, instead of a funeral, which we’ve had too many of lately.

I went for a long walk with my mom on Sunday (we went up “The Gap,” which is not the same as the store–it’s much steeper and rockier, and there’s a creek in the middle). I had a stick, but it was only a stick, not Stick, no tiki heads or anything. :frowning: I borrowed it from my mom, and she’s not into tiki heads and stuff. But it was nice for walking up hills and across creeks. I managed not to step in any cow pies, but my mom did. You’d think she’d know better! So that’s my weekend in a nutshell. Oh, and we had a chicken and wild asparagus casserole and pickled goose eggs on Sunday, too.

I promised photo of me au naturel, so here it is! Don’t blame me–blame V-Bob and Sean. They’re bad influences.

I’ll redeem myself with some very cute photos later. I have a bunch of stuff to scan in.

MagicEyes! I’m shocked…just shocked.

(I seem to be going all parental this week.)

GT

Wouldn’t that be a case of calling in “Well?”
The call would go something like this:

“Hello, Boss?” Yes, its me, and this morning I woke up to find that my mental health is at an all time high, I’m simply too well to come to work. The office is a catch basin for all manner of mental and emotional vagaries and disorders. It just isn’t safe when I feel so centered and happy. What? Yes, I said HAPPY… Spell it?! H…A…P…P…Y … Just look it up. ok? I’ll see you when I’m back to normal. TTFN."

Ok, happy and centered might have to give way to fired… but burn that bridge when you come to it!

We just got home from a reunion/retirement party with some smoke jumpers hubby worked with 20 years ago in the Kern Valley. Its east of Bakersfield, CA.
He showed me the hill he had to climb everyday with full gear. Its just about straight up! He thinks he could still do it without breaking a sweat.
I’d be surprised of he could climb the fence, much less the mountain!

The party was held at Kennedy Meadows/Chimney Peak. (no, don’t bother trying to find it on a map, its just in the middle of that part that says “Here There Be Dragons”) The access to it is an actual paved road, that switches back and forth from the desert floor (103°F) to 6400 feet ( 78°F). No guard rails, no pansy signs saying, "Twenty-five 90° turns back to back ahead, as the road narrows to less than one lane. "

There are a surprising number of houses up there, considering they have to generate their own electricity(solar mostly) and drill their own water wells.

They got telephone service this spring. That would be any kind of phone service. No real phones, just cell/satellite phones. Very spendy.
They used ham radios previously.
We were warned to stay on the road until we got to our destination, as some of the people living up there are a bit “eccentric.” They tend to shoot at people they don’t know.
We had a great time once the drive was behind us. Of course, since we aren’t inclined to sleep on the ground anymore, we had to go back down the mountain before dark to our rustic lodge back in Kernville, only to return in the morning.
All in all, it was a lovely week, and I’m very happy to be able to sleep in my own bed again!

swampy, I thought a third person was snapping pictures at Swampfest. I know I hid from at least one shot in the bar, but I didn’t see it. Any idea who the slacker not posting them might be? (Whoever you are, I’m only kidding, you aren’t really a slacker:D )

What a babe!

Dang MagicEyes you ain’t even walking yet and you sit and post to the MMP. I am impressed!

I remembered this morning I was gonna say something about love bug season. Since it’s been a little cooler than usual this Spring, we haven’t had the usual love bug lovefest going on this May. Course with my luck, they’re all waiting for September for their second lovefest of the year and we’ll have a plague of love bugs!

I had a really hard time this morning deciding between smelling red clovery or oatmeal/grapefruity. Oatmeal/grapefruity won out because I like the way it makes my skin feel kinda tingly when I use it. I promised red clover tomorrow would be it’s turn. The little soapy bear full of red clover shower gel looked kinda sad at me.

picunurse I can’t remember if there was a third picture taker or not cause I was having a ton o’ fun. The placard is sitting atop my puter desk at home (it’s a roll top desk) so I can gaze upon it and remember. Also, it’s kinda fun when somebody else is in there and says, “What the heck’s a swampfest?” Then I tell em and they say “Oh, it’s something from that message board you’re alway carrying on about.” It adds to my mystique and general overall weirdness in their eyes. It’s Perfect!

Thanks!

Hardly seen narey a one either, as swampy said. There seems to be a plague of nitwit beetles about though. Ya get smacked by all these bumblers that fall on the ground and spin around and then fly off and do it all over again. I’m sure the LBs will show up eventually.

Grumble, grumble, grumble. The concensus is a suit so looks like I gotta add suit shoppin’ to my activities this weekend. That is unless I’m jumpin’ the gun here. Should I e-mail the HR guy and thank him for his time?

ems, gee, sorry, my heli is booked this weekend by some rock stars. Otherwise I’d so be there fer shur.

magic, what a little cutiepie!

Anybody got any memorial day weekend plans? The Princess[sup]TM[/sup] wants to go to the beach but I don’t know if I can fit it in what with all the movin’ and shoppin’ and such. And I really, really need to get my hairs cut.

Tupug

Sure wish we could edit here but, anyhoo, does anybody else besides taters who’s gonna be boatin’ and tubin’ have MDW plans?
