Jerry Seinfeld was a troll...who else?

I think that’s American Dad.

Gregory Anton in Gaslight, but it’s more for profit then amusement.

Oh, if we’re going mythological, then Eris wins.

Woody Woodpecker (with appropriate passage from “Seinfeld”):

Moe Syzlack–he even played one in the fairy tale telling of “Billy Goats Gruff.”

Yes of course Bugs *‘aint I a stinker’ * Bunny is a classic. Also Foghorn Leghorn.

Hawkeye and Trapper from Mash.

Stole mine. shakes fist

Second the nomination. As an example, in the episode when they’re traveling to “Vanstock”, Jackie and Laurie are both sitting up front with Kelso, who is driving. Kelso is not so secretly banging both gals, but Jackie is his “girlfriend” and doesn’t know about the side action. Hyde sticks his head up, and steers the conversation in ways that make Kelso squirm, even leading the girls in singing the theme from “Three’s Company”…

Nah, he’s more of a power-mad moderator. The janitor, however, it pure troll. He makes accusations that he does not personally believe to be true, merely to annoy other people.

Nah, he wasn’t a troll, he was a one-trick pony with an inability to follow forum rules. When he pulled the gun on Smokey, he wasn’t doing it just to fuck with the guy, he really believed that firearms were a reasonable solution to bowling disagreements.

My best Jerry Seinfeld example has to be when he informs Elaine that Tolstoy’s original title to War and Peace was actually War, what is it Good For? Of course, Elaine believes him and much hilarity ensues.

Bender from Futurama. He’s always stirring up trouble.

Abby on Dawson’s Creek

Yeah, because AD & FG aren’t the same show.

Not that I don’t like both.

I can’t completely agree with Bunny, Pierce, or Mackintyre, because each of them had a conscience. (Remember the Looney Tune when Bugs got incensed at the Eskimo hunter who was going to kill the defenseless and utterly out of place penguin?) A true troll will vex anyone for the fun of it; those three will vex in self-defense, defense of others, or in the pursuit of the greater good (i.e., anything that pisses off Frank Burns or Elmer Fudd is probably the right thing to do anyway, even if it’s not obviously so.)

Bud Bundy

In that case, I would wager Bugs was a troll under certain writers and not others, just as the Marxes always harnessed their talents to help nice young couples after they left Paramount.

Steve MB, my first thought was Iago from “Othello,” too. He was a troll’s troll, that one.

Chandler on “Friends” sometimes was a troll to his otherwise-good buddy Joey Tribbiani. My favorite was when Joey was trying to come up with a better stage name and Chandler, with a straight face, suggested “Joey Stalin.” Joey loved it, tried it out at an audition and came back dejected, saying something like, “Turns out there was some nasty Russian dictator guy who had that name.” Chandler professed to be shocked, shocked at the coincidence…!

I don’t find them similar at all, aside from the animation and actors. Seriously – I think they’re very different, right down the line from ‘absurdist’ to ‘topical’. Maybe we should have another thread on this, though.

I’m not sure if a Trickster is the same as a “troll”. A trickster, like Loki, Eris, and Bugs Bunny, acts on a sort of divine mandate; sewing trouble is what they are, not so much what they sometimes do, if this makes sense. If there’s an ideology or dogma behind it, it’s not pure trolling.

Iago is doing it for revenge, though, not to amuse himself or because it’s what he does. Is that different?
