Panurge, from Rabelais’ Gargantua and Pantagruel. A troll without peer.
Tik-Tok the robot?
Q from ST-TNG
Q plays about with species to help them with their evolution sometimes, but then he does seem to get some kicks messing with others.
How’s about another Trek villian, the nebulous creature from Day of the Dove. Feasting off the hate it creates, the ultimate troll!
I’m inclined to think that “helping species evolve” is Q’s excuse, not his reason. He’s a quintessential troll.
How about Bart Simpson?
This thread is so… inspiring
Barney on “How I Met Your Mother.” The guy’s main interests are trolling and sex.
Carla on “Cheers.” She just loved to stir up shit.
And Mr Burns?
Mr. Burns doesn’t stir up trouble just for the fun of it. He does bad things for his own benefit. I was going to nominate Eric Cartman, but for the most part, he is the same way. I think I’ll go back a way and nominate Gladys Kravitz - the next door neighbor on “Bewitched”.
Samantha’s sister and Jeannie’s sister from Bewitched and **I Dream of Jeannie ** respectively. I can’t remember either character’s name, but they were both shit-stirrers of the first order. FWIW, Elizabeth Montgomery and Barbara Eden both looked rather sexy as brunettes.
Nah. Barney just thinks that he has the secret of life utterly figured out, and that if his friends just did as he did, they’d be as happy as he is. And he’s willing to trick them into following the path of enlightenment.
The profit motive is the normal one with him, yeah, but he’s also evil and likes watching people suffer. (That probably doesn’t qualify as pure trolling either.) In “Homer vs. Dignity,” Burns is definitely a troll.
Baseball Season! Go get it, boy (Elmer runs off shooting at the ball Bugs has thrown) (from Rabbit Seasonings)

IIRC, Sam’s sister was named Serena. Jeannie’s sister was also named Jeannie.
Troll = Protagonist. Their actions are necessary to keep the “story” moving along.
Otherwise you’d have a show about nothing.

That seems a deliberate obtuse and, if I may conjecture, silly misinterpretation of the words “protagonist” and “troll.” The protagonist is the main character of the story, the person whose efforts we most follow, and usually whom we are meant to root for to win. Trolls are generally an impediment to the goal of the protagonist.
What about a real life troll: Prince Phillip. I think he makes those remarks like “slanty eyes” and such just to see if he can piss people off. I mean, it’s not like he has that much to do.
I couldn’t find the “approximately equal to” sign. Anyway that’s what this thread is all about. People are taking protagonists from various stories and calling them trolls.
