It’s time for us Jersey folk to have our own fest. Here are some ideas that I had. Feedback and alternate suggestions are most welcome.
Date: Saturday, October 19th
In the afternoon: Meet at noon for a picnic and autumn hiking at Watchung Reservation. The reservation has a nature center, many hiking trails, a deserted village, and other neato stuff. The longest hiking loop is about 7 miles. It is off Rt. 22, not far from exit 140 on the Garden State.
In the evening: Meet at 6 for dinner and drinks at the Cranford Hotel. They have a fun bar in the cellar. It is right in the middle of Cranford, which is at exit 137 off the Garden State. It is also 1 block from the NJ Transit station at Cranford. Cranford is a neat little town with interesting antique shops and other stores.
Heapie–Good. Don’t come to Jersey. Who wants to see a “weirdo” like you anyway? p.s. I’m glad you started this thread. Should be interesting to see what people say.
Frank: Cranford is about 10 miles west of Newark. Take the Jersey Turnpike to exit 11. Get on the Garden State Parkway North. Go approx. 8 miles to exit 137. Cranford is right there. Hope you can make it.

I’m in. Mebbie I’ll ride my killer moped ™! I used to live really close to Cranford when I was a wee tyke. It’s easy to get to using NJ transit/Path from NYC too.
Well, I gotta work that morning and early afternoon, so I can’t do the hike, but dinner and drinks! I think The Dave-Guy can swing that.
Of course I have to check with my Social Secretary (otherwise known as Mrs. Dave-Guy [or NOT Mrs. Dave-Guy]) in case there’s a concert/show/conference/wedding/elephant stampede we have to attend.
But at this point, I say, yeah, count me in for the evening’s festivities.
Somehow I suspect that that issue will be dealt with, as the Bean Sprout and Baby Tee are both under 1 and all, not to mention under under 21 and all. Most restaurant’s don’t have a problem with infants.
