Jerusalem Pride marchers pelted with piss and shit; three stabbed

Almost 1,000 protestors lined the parade route. Bottles of urine and bags containing feces were hurled at marchers.

Police arrested a dozen members of an ultra-Orthodox Jewish sect when they attempted to block the street and stop the march.

The reason that there is shit staining the mogen david is the obvious (intentional…)failure of the city government to supply adequate security (as ordered by the court…you are not supposed to have to get a court order for the police to prevent you from being turned into a turd statue).

Note that there were

1000 shit throwers

one dozen arrested for blocking the streets.

Well, that’ll teach’em.

There were 1000 protestors. We have no evidence that all of those protestors were throwing urine and feces. From what I’ve seen so far, we have no estimate of just how much of either substance was thrown.

I’m hardly going to defend the idiots who did this, but to claim that 100% of the protestors were throwing that stuff is inaccurate.

Although this quote from the article in the OP, referring to the people marching in the Pride event, is ironic considering what happened.

alas, I was (not the first time) obscure in my point.

Where were the arrests for battery, which is what occurs when person a throws ANYTHING, (let alone…) at person B.

“blocking the streets???” gmaFb

I’m hardly going to defend the idiots who did this, but to claim that 100% of the protestors were throwing that stuff is inaccurate.
fair enough, but was ANY shit thrower charged? The article is vague as the the shitthrowing contingent vs. simply those there to cheer them on, but I am unable to discern any sanction meted out beyond the stabbers and street blockers.

Shlomo Amar, Israel’s Sephardic chief rabbi said gays were “creating a deep and terrible sorrow that is unbearable.”

By the way, it is also worth noting that while Phelps and Amar are both assholes, only Amar has a position with quasi-governmental (maybe not even quasi, but I am blissfully ignorant of the theocratic elements of the Israeli constitution…) status.

Yes, I know. You’re not listening – I asked, when in this thread has anyone leveled an attack against Israel analogous to the fictional one you mentioned against the US?

I mean, just to make it perfectly clear, you said, " ’ "WTF? All of these American slime deserve to die! And we need to give all the land back to the Indians, too!’ "

Nobody in this thread has said anything the least bit comparable about Israel. Nobody said all Israelis deserve to die, or even suggested that all Israelis share the point of view of the protesters. You’re so far out in left field you’ve exited the ballpark.

Miller, back in post #40:

Looks to me like somebody is going straight from the topic to pitting Israel in general, no?

That being said, I agree that I went way too far in my own hypothetical – nobody here actually called for the destruction of Israel. A better hypothtical would have been just a “How can all these Americans behave that way?” type of generalization. And so once again I find myself appologizing… While I really think I have a valid point here someplace, I’ve been over-sensitive and over-reactive in this thread and have therefore lost that point; and it’s probably time for me to go to sleep (it’s past midnight here). In the end, I don’t really think we disagree much…

and it’s a good thing I understand baseball, too – or I’d’ve probably bashed my head in against the Green Monster, way out there in left field  Yes, I hail from Boston originally, why do you ask?

Actually (and to sum up my contribution to this thread tonight – meager as it may have been), a far better analogy would have been if I had brought up, like I said, Abortion Clinic attackers in the US, and when someone made the point that in Iraq abortions aren’t even legal at all (no, before you ask, I don’t have any idea if they are or aren’t. It may be the preferred form of Birth Control there, for all I know. This is an hypothetical), came back with “well, that’s what makes it OK for you to butcher Iraquis, right?”
Not that the “Well, we’re better than <someone else>!” attitude is justified… still, you’d all be "WTF, dude? " at anyone who pulled that kind of line, wouldn’t you? Do you see the analogy now?

(And yes, I know you’re Canadian. But I think Miller, e.g., is American)

OK, off to bed. I really shouldn’t be posting when I’m this tired…

From where I’m sitting, he’s responding to Weirddave’s bizarre non-sequitur about Palestinians, which implies that the actions of the Israeli government in the occupied territories are justified by the fact that they are homophobic.

Up until Weirddave let that little nugget loose, we were cheerfully heaping fundamentalist loonies with opprobrium. Complain to Weirddave.

As for myself, it would be levelled against other countries- the ones I’m thinking of are my own (the US), Canada, the UK, France, etc.- you know, Western liberal democracies. If Israel wants to be on the list of good guys, they have to act like it, and not whine like little bitches when they are criticized- “Wah, why do you have to pick on Israel.” Sack up and take some fucking responsibility. The good guys should be striving to be better, not justifying shortcomings by saying “At least we’re not as bad as those fuckers over there.”

I wouldn’t bother with the bad guys, because it would be expected- a piece of shit can’t help the smell.

The protestors have every right to hold up spiteful signs and shout hateful slogans and say that - that’s part and parcel of free expression. Once the fists, or knives, or bullets, or bags of shit, as the case may be, start to fly in large enough numbers that it’s not just isolated assholes that are crushed swiftly and furiously, is when criticism is not only justified, it’s required.

Of course, why did I even bother… any thread even mentioning Israel devolves into an Israel- Palestine shitstorm and/or a holocaust/ Nazi shitstorm. Combine that with the gay rights issue that usually devolves into criticism of any religious objection to homosexual behavior as mindless fundamentalist loonyism and/or a mischaracterisation of all homosexuals/bisexuals/transsexuals/etc. as the campy caricatures that appear in “Pride events.” I’m just a straight white male with a Christian background that doesn’t give a fuck what someone else does in their bedroom, kitchen, backyard, etc. as long as it’s private, consentual, and doesn’t hurt anyone not involved. It’s not my fight, except in the way that it’s everybody’s fight.

Oh for the love of fuck. You have heard of sarcasm, right? This isn’t a new concept to you?
