Jessica Simpson "balloons" (sic) to size 8

By movie star standards, she’s fat. By normal people standards…she’s still a bit on the chubby side from those pictures. She looks like any ole cornfed sorority RPG I might see in a college bar.

I mean what’s the big deal? So she’s a bit heavy. It’s only a problem because she gets paid to be super sexy skinny. If she was an accountant or something no one would care.

I’m not a celebrity and my career isn’t based on my looks, but I still manage to hit the gym at least 5 days a week. Obviously in Jessica’s world, pie > career. And no, I’m not in a basement right now, and last time I checked, I hadn’t entered the priesthood.

My point with the last part of my statement is that I’d be willing to bet that a humongous percentage of the guys saying “omg she is so fat” would have absolutely ZERO chance of even getting her to look their direction, let alone “get with her” so they’re just living in Fantasy Zone.
I do have to say, though, that if that is a size 8, it explains why I had to send a recent skirt I purchased back. I thought I was a size 8 (because of my ghetto booty) but my waist says otherwise. Apparently things that don’t need to be snug around your rear end? I’m a size 6 at most. Who knew?

The big deal is that she gets paid to be super sexy skinny and yet she’s reneged on the deal. If I agreed to, and was paid a ton of money to, do something, even as shallow as that, I’d fulfil the contract.

I read that as “skank top.”

Jeez, she can BUY new clothes. And don’t forget, this is the woman that was confused because her tuna can said, “Chicken of the Sea” on it. Her mind and judgment are not her best features. But as far as looks go, even with the extra weight (maybe because of it), I’d hit it like the fist of an angry god. I don’t expect to ever sleep with photoshopped perfection, and a curvy woman can be very hot.

If I wanted to see her sing, her weight wouldn’t bother me a bit.

What does that have to do with anything? I don’t get this at all, shes getting the same criticism a basketball player who couldn’t play anymore would. We don’t get paid millions of dollars to look hot.

She looks awful in that outfit, no question. It makes her look FAT, even if she isn’t. She needs to hit the gym for sure, but it’s nothing a little toning-up wouldn’t help. Maybe the reason everyone is shocked is because she looked so unhealthy before, and now we’re used to it…

I used to be a 4, now I am a 2 or even a 0. I am still 5’1" and less than 110 lbs. It’s like magic!

I know of one high-end designer label whose fit model couldn’t cope with her figure changing as she aged, so she insisted that the size she wore was always a 4. Women who had worn that label for 20 years and always been a 4 found themselves in some extremely small size numbers after that. Vanity sizing, indeed.

Not me, baby.

My point is that a lot of armchair critics have issues that are mostly about themselves than about the people they are bashing. I can picture a lot of 300lb balding dudes who spend all their time watching porn on the internet or playing World of Warcraft and who wouldn’t know what to say to a woman if they actually encountered one getting all righteous and saying “oh man she is soooo fat! hahaha!” when in reality they’d probably sell everything they owned just for a chance to touch her, because she’s way better looking* than anyone who they would ever likely have a chance with.

She may not be anorexic level thin in the way that Hollywood would have us all believe is the ideal shape for a woman, and she may be wearing some really unfortunately fitting clothes, but the woman is FAR from being “fat” and it speaks volumes about us as a culture that people would go about it like this. She is still well within the weight range of a healthy woman and she is still far more attractive than most women–probably more attractrive than any women posting in this thread, for example.

To say that she deserves contempt because she still makes money for being attractive when she no longer represents the unhealthy cancer-victim weight levels that the fashion industry loves to promote is just sick.
*not saying that looks are everything, but we are talking here about people judging based on looks so it’s what is relevant to the discussion at hand.

Preach it, sister. That girl is so far away from fat she can’t even see it.

she cant sing, cant dance, has a face like a train wreck and no longer has the smoking hot body/only thing she ever had going for her in the first place in her entire no talent life.
yeah I wasnt interested when she had the hard body, now even less.

I doubt she cares if you are interested. She’s making money at something, so somebody likes something she’s doing. I bet any number of people on this board would trade places with her in a heartbeat to be making the money she makes for doing what she does. I think a lot of this kind of animosity boils down to jealousy.

Face like a trainwreck, eh? That makes me even more sure than I was before that just about everybody is lying in the threads we have here where people post pictures of themselves and then everyone fawns over how “hot” everyone is, and gets all “how YOU doin’?” to every single female who posts their photo. Because if that’s a trainwreck to you, then most of the women on this board must be, what, roadkill to you?

Bolding mine for emphasis and downright hilarity.

I know it’s a popular belief on this board that anyone in Hollywood has to be anorexic or bulimic, but that just isn’t so. Cancer-victim weight? Now you’re ridiculous and offensive.

Jennifer Aniston has a fantastic figure and she is 5’6" and told Oprah when she was on last that she weighs anywhere from 125-130 pounds. That is hardly anorexic and it is perfectly attainable if you CHOOSE to do the work that goes into it.

Jessica Simpson was never so thin that she could be called anorexic. Many, many people on this board spout the word anorexic so much I don’t really think they have any clue what it means. Look up Allegra Versace if you really want to see what anorexia looks like.

So you can continue to think that all the men who are posting that she’s overweight are desperate and that all the women who say she’s overweight are jealous if that makes you feel better.

Perhaps while you’re making assumptions about the other posters here, you might examine which of your own food issue buttons are being pushed here and consider that might be why you’re posting in such a combative way.

If you think that Hollywood and the fashion industry promote a healthy, normal body image for women, then you are living in a fantasy world. I have no idea what the hell she ever looked like in the past; I don’t even know who she IS. I just know that she’s famous because I have heard her name a lot but I don’t know what she’s famous for. But I remember when people were calling Kate Winslet from the Titanic movie fat, and she wasn’t anywhere near it, and that whole mentality ticks me off. It leads young girls to have really poor body images and develop eating disorders and such.

I fail to see where I said that everyone in Hollywood is anorexic, nor do I see where I said that looking good isn’t possibly attainable. All I’m saying is that if you look at those photos and think “wow, she’s fat” then you’ve got problems.

And yes, Jennifer Aniston has a great figure. She weighs about the same as I do, and she’s 4" taller than me. I’m not freakishly thin by any means but I don’t think I’m overweight, either, so the idea that I could grow another four inches in height without adding any weight makes me think that’s probably not the kind of body that most women are likely to get without putting in a hell of a lot of time and effort into just working out and maintaining their figure–which most people don’t have the time to do, nor should they. How thin you are shouldn’t be so important that you devote hours a day to maintaining it.

I use strong and/or colorful language because that’s the kind of person I am. If you find it so ridiculous and offensive please feel free to add me to your ignore list. None of my “food issue buttons” are being pushed, I just get irritated when people with normal bodies are called fat. And I wasn’t being “combative” against anyone here. I was expressing my disgust for the general trend in the world toward viewing any woman who isn’t rail-thin as being overweight. As for “making assumptions about the other posters here” I for the most part wasn’t. The vast majority of the posters in this thread were agreeing that she isn’t fat and that mainly she was wearing ugly pants. What I said was “I’d be willing to bet money that she’s better looking than 99.999999999999999999999999999999999999999999999% of the people criticizing her on the internet (including here).” That ‘including here’ bit referred to the very small handful of people who had actually seemed to share the opinion that she was fat, but the main point I was making was “the people criticizing her on the internet” meaning, for example, asshats at Fox News who write “news” articles about it, and the pile-ons of agreement that generally follow such things in blogs and what-have-you all over the internet. Perhaps it is you who needs to examine what your own issues are that make you assume that my annoyance was directed at the posters here. If you’re feeling so defensive, I guess that means you are one of the people who thinks she is a massive cow?

Monica: Don’t forget the camera adds ten pounds.
Chandler: Jeez, how many cameras were on you at the time?

Photos dated four days later than the photos that prompted the discussion- much better outfit.

Opal, I know you’re capable of reading because you’re posting here. I’m sure you read the whole thread before you went on your rant, so you can clearly see what I posted about her and I didn’t say she was a massive cow. So apparently you “guessed” wrong. I maintain that she is overweight and definitely not a size 8.

Thanks for reminding me that I can put you on my ignore list, you’re really a helpful poster. Thank you. I realize you are quite the colorful personality, I’ve read here for a long time and believe that to be abundantly true.

I didn’t claim that you said all Hollywood types are anorexic, I said many people on this board throw that term around when it comes to Hollywood types.

You think that if anyone looks at her picture and thinks she’s fat they have problems. I don’t think “Fat” but I definitely think she’s overweight. 2/3rds of Americans are overweight. One-third of Americans are obese. Just like most people don’t know what a “normal” portion of food is, many do not know what a normal weight is. Jessica Simpson is 5’3" tall and according to height/weight charts she should weigh between 121-135 pounds. No way she’s in that range. That’s not Hollywood’s weight chart, that’s the American Medical Association.

It doesn’t take hours per day to get in shape, and it certainly doesn’t take that amount of time to maintain it. That’s a myth that I think a lot of people cling to as a reason they’re not in shape. It’s about being healthy, not about being thin. Promoting the idea that it takes hours a day to be within a healthy weight range is just as defeating to women who want to be in shame as the beauty industry. And no, I am not directing those things at YOU, just the misinformation that circulates around here anytime weight is brought up on the boards.

Good Og, everybody is so naive.

Jessica Simpson was no longer headline news. We’ve had the marriage, the reality soap, the “dumb blonde act”, the divorce, the new love. The attention had dried up.

If Jessica is no longer headline news, she can’t sell her fame at the same prices. Less photoshoots sold. Less interest in her appearing anywhere public. Lower appearance fees. Less free publicity for her shows and her music. Etcetera.

So she gets fat, a bit. Performs in the most unflattering outfit her stylist and agent could come up with. Hey presto: attention. Headline news.

Wait a few weeks for Jessica in new fotoshoots, with a better weight. Watch Jessica in emotional interviews about her battle with weight. Watch (and buy) the new Jessica diet book and fitness video.

Yawn.

Yessica is no Kirstie Alley.

Jessica Simpson has always had an unappealing face. I interact with a dozen people everyday that have a better face.

In fact, if you think Jessica Simpson is some unattainable beauty, you’re the one living in a fantasy world. She’s mildly attractive sure, but it would be trivival to walk onto any college campus in the country and find a pile of girls just as attractive in a few minutes.
