Based on the photos, it’s not clear to me if you think there’s no way she ways as much as 121 pounds or *as little *as 135 pounds.
To me, she looks closer to the lower end than the higher end.

No way is she overweight. Those jeans and that hideous belt are just making her seem that way.
She’s also said in many interviews that she spends multiple hours/day exercising, has private chefs, private trainers, and has spent time under the knife.
Attainable. Yes. Easily attainable by people who do not have loads of money and/or time to throw at the problem… not so much.
Based on the photos, I’d say she’s in the range (if she really is 5’3"). Personally, I’d say she’s probably closer to 130 than 120, but I really doubt if she weighs more than 135!
She’s not skinny, but she’s not fat either. She’s certainly not at an unhealthy weight.
Oh, and just checked a number of stores. Most of them place their size 8 at around 27-29 inches at the waist, around 38-39 hips.
Not much better- ill-fitting jacket with an unattractive cumberbund, tacky pleather pants… girl needs fashion help STAT.
Opal, I know you are passionate but come on- your outrage in this case seems a bit over the top- you judge plenty of people by things other than the content of their character.
I’m going to have to agree with OpalCat on this one. Anyone who thinks that the Hollywood version of what a woman’s body should be is the ideal is delusional. Jessica Simpson needs to throw her stylist out on his or her ass, but she’s not overweight by the guidelines posted earlier in this thread. If she weighs more than 135 I will eat her liopsuction.
I think the kerfuffle here is based on a misunderstanding that my initial irritation with people calling people like Jessica Simpson fat was directed at the members of this board. It was directed at society as a whole and its tendency to label especially celebrities as “fat” when they’re not. I only said, Sleeps with Butterflies, that you think she’s a cow because you seemed to be putting yourself into the opposition of my argument–the group of people that I was expressing annoyance with–a group I did not initially place you in, nor did I think most of the people here were in. It is not my opinion that you actually think that–I didn’t “guess wrong” but rather I was being sarcastic; it was a way to show how you probably didn’t fit into the scope of people that I was pissed about by demonstrating how absurd it would be to assume that you felt that way.
Perhaps it was unwise to add the initial parenthetical phrase that the people who were espousing that opinion here at the SDMB were included in my group, because it seems to have made a few people think that it meant that was my primary group. When I started posting in this thread I thought that my posts were largely agreeing with the majority and that the thread was primarily people saying “wtf? that’s fat? No, that’s ugly pants and she just isn’t as thin as she used to be.”
And it’s true that there is a different scale for body types in Hollywood and the fashion industry. I forget what it is exactly and I’m too lazy to go look it up, but it’s something like 10-15lbs below what is considered appropriate for the rest of society.
And yeah she may be slightly overweight, I don’t know. I haven’t seen her naked. Hell, most people in America are slightly if not seriously overweight. But being slightly overweight does not mean you’re FAT.
Justin Bailey: I never said I thought she was an unattainable beauty. She isn’t my personal taste, either. But she isn’t a trainwreck. I mean come on. Go to Walmart on any day of the week and look at each person there. Do you really think that she ranks below most of them? The fact is that a whole lot more people look closer to this than they do to JS.
And the reason I get so passionate about this is that it really does create a problem. In the adolescent psychology class I recently took, for example, we read several studies about self-esteem among adolescents. For example: Susan Harter – studied self concept in adolescents. She came up with 8 pieces to self concept:
Speaking of Jennifer Aniston’s “fabulous” body, I saw her hosting a rerun of SNL last night and you could see her ribs between her boobs.
