Jesus Christ Superstar UK Rock Spectacular presented by Fathom Events

I’ve never been to a Fathom Events screening. For those who don’t know what Fathom Events is, they book screenings in movie theaters of digital recordings of live events.

This upcoming week, they’re screening Jesus Christ Superstar billed as Jesus Christ Superstar UK Rock Spectacular. The trailer really doesn’t show anything at all of the actual performance, so I followed the link to watch the trailer on YouTube to see the related videos in the sidebar.

None of the videos in the sidebar were uploaded by the same account as the Fathom Events trailer, and none of them are titled “Jesus Christ Superstar UK Rock Spectacular” but there are a few titled “Jesus Christ Superstar Arena Tour” such as this trailer here.

Does anyone know if the Fathom Events screening is the same production as the Arena Tour production?

As I feel relatively safe assuming that they are the same, the more important question is:
Have any Dopers seen the Arena Tour production, and what did you think?

I would so so love to see JCS with TM being a huge fan of both. Not sure if this is gonna make it to Berlin any time soon though. :frowning:

Hi, Unauthorized Cinnamon, I see you’re in NC. Did you get rained in last night or did you make it to the screening?

I hope you’re well, reasonably dry, and would love to hear a review if you made it. If not, I’ll provide a review after seeing it on Thursday.

I’ve watched all the clips provided by you and Moe (Hey, Moe) and I agree that Tim Minchin is pretty cool. Thanks to both of you for providing links. I’ll start working my way through some of the sidebar videos now. I’ll definitely appreciate his performance in Superstar more, I think, having seen some of his other work.

O.K., looks like I won’t be giving you a review. I just checked the Fathom Events website and the screening has been canceled- both last night and Thursday- and, apparently, it’s canceled everywhere, even here in dry Sandyless California.

No explanation. Just canceled and they “do not know if it will be rescheduled”.

Bummer.
I was going to take my friend’s daughter. This was to be her very first exposure to Superstar.

Well that blows. I’m grateful for the update, because we had rescheduled to go tomorrow night due to babysitting issues, and I would have orchestrated all that and rolled up to the theater only to find it’s canceled. Shit.

Yeah, I hope I can get a DVD of this. I’m a fan of musical theater but have somehow managed never to see this show, and as noted I lerve Tim Minchin. Now I feel grumpy!
