Jesus: I'm not impressed.

I do.

They make the God who loved the world enough to send His only Son out to be a sadistic, petulant and petty banana republic dictator.

And, to add to your boggle quotient for the day, I agree with Rush Limbaugh on one recent statement of his: “Falwell and Robertson speak only for Falwell and Robertson.”

Thank you. 1.8 billion Christians hold 1.8 billion different mindsets. I resent all of us being lumped together as think-alikes.

Okay, this is zoogirl posting in her “Christian Girl” guise.
Why am I impressed by Jesus? Well, on March 28,‘96 I had a rather convincing experience. I won’t go into all the details, and I don’t suppose it’s quite rational anyway, but I am completely sure He exists.
I am fortunate enought to be a member of a great church. I guess you’d call it “Modern”. We have a band instead of a choir, and a Drama team, and we do things like rent the local wave pool for a church Pool-Party. All of that is well and good, but the important thing is the love and acceptance I have found there. We have an incredibly diverse group of people, ranging from professionals to welfare recepients. We are all ages, multi racial, and represent the full range of physical abilities. We have atheletes and the wheelchair-bound.
The only reason these people have come together is because they are members of the family of Jesus. When I look around the room on a Sunday, I see hope. If we can come together, with all our differences, because of Jesus, then that gives me hope that someday all people might find a reason to sit together in peace.
Jesus will accept anyone. So, compared to religions that prefer to find reasons to exclude rather than include, I will chose Christianity.
For a number of reasons, throughout my life I have always been considered a little “different”. I can’t even begin to explain how much the surety of Jesus’ love and acceptance means to me. I realize I’m leaving myself wide open to being percieved as a “freak” who “saw God”, but I am as sure that I had a brief moment when I felt Jesus near me, as I am sure that I am sitting here typing this. Emotional? Irrational? Sure, but undeniable just the same, and yes, I was impressed!

What a beautiful and touching testimony! I can see that you stand upon the unshakable rock. God go with you always.

So, in conclusion Lolo, I’d say you’re not impressed by Jesus because you’ve never met him.

I met Jesus once.

It was at a Halloween party, a little over a decade ago. I actually had a girlfriend at the time (gasp!) and we came to the party dressed as Captain Kirk and Yeoman Rand.

Jesus arrived fashionably late. He wasn’t carrying a cross, but He had the robe, and the sandals, and the long hair, and the wounds on his hands and feet, and the crown of bloody thorns. Later on, I happened to be standing right in front of Jesus when I accidentally sneezed. He said to me, in the most reverent voice possible, “God bless you.”

I did, however, make the mistake of trying to introduce one of my acquaintances to Him by asking, “Have you met Jesus?”. I remembered a split-second later that the acquaintance was a Born-Again Christian. :o

OUCH!
