I don’t wonder. Nonnies are rather stupid people, who don’t have the intelligence or integrity to actually Pit people. They like to make themselves feel better by making fun of other people, so they can feel better about themselves. But they don’t even have the decency to do so where people can see them.
I mean, despite being reminded repeatedly the purpose of the nicknames on that site, they continue to use one that is easily searched for. They can’t stay on a topic for longer than two seconds, and despite trying to be funny very rarely are.
I honestly don’t give the slightest bit of credence to what anyone on that board thinks of me. If anything, I enjoy it when they say bad things about me. I occasionally go there myself and actively encourage it.

Stoid agrees to accept that some Posters find her disagreeable, vexatious, and an all around no-goodnik. That exposure to her mindset adversely affects their universal plenum of discourse. As dire as this fact may be to her self-esteem and karmic integrity, she agrees to try to find the strength to go on, somehow.
She must commit, however, to display her username in a prominent and unmistakable location, so that innocently meandering attention is not needlessly soiled. (I think somewhere towards the top would be best.)
Being so warned, posters who find her disagreeable are advised they can simply pick up their little basket and skip along, skip along. Of course, in so doing, they agree to forfeit any opportunity to complain, bitch, bellyache, or piss and moan.
Such an agreement would, if strictly adhered to, promote peaceful harmony and respectful intercourse here on the Board, and thus hasten the eventual enlightenment of all sentient beings. Albeit in a minor, insignificant way.

There’s always somebody who comes into these kind of pit threads and says, in essence, “why don’t you just ignore it if you don’t like it?”. I’m sure this seems very clever, but it ignores several key facts:

It’s enjoyable to share complaints about someone who is acting like a tool. You can’t tell me you’ve never engaged in some recreational bitching about, say, a coworker.

Due to board rules, people can’t always say what needs to be said in other threads. Why should someone like Stoid get to act like a smug bastard without comment?

Stoid herself refuses to play by your rules. She is quite happy to fling insults around, both towards general classes of people and towards specific dopers. It’s not like she was just minding her business and she was suddenly pitted out of the blue. Why should people let her insult them and just turn a blind eye to it?

When discussing how one debates, being right versus being wrong is entirely irrelevant. If your debating tactics are inappropriate, they remain inappropriate even when your opponent is taking the position that the Earth is flat as a pancake. If your debating tactics are fair and you seem to give consideration to competing / contrasting ideas, you remain a fair and considerate debater even when you are arguing that the Earth is flat and that folks who think it is round are misled.
