Jesus-merciful-fuck, Stoid is a freaking dipshit.

Uh, I think it is. That’s not normal.

I’m not sure how accurate this is, but according to the calorie counter I just used:

It’s 2am, do you know where your pie is?

Heh. No, but if I get up at 2am to use the bathroom, and Maggie’s around, she’ll harass me so I’ll feed her – does that count?

(Note: Maggie is extremely tiny and her metabolism must be the speed of light)

Does that count as what?

Yeah, but is it bad? If I woke up in the middle of the night and was hungry, I wouldn’t see anything weird about eating a slice of pie, if I liked pie. I think I’d be more likely to go with brownies instead. I mean, is there some rule that if it’s after midnight that it has to be fruit or veggies?

I don’t wake up hungry, but if I did, I’d go straight for the pie. Especially if it was blueberry.

Obviously there is no rule, but I think that Lynn’s horrific health is a result of the choices she makes. You might find this presumptuous of me to say something so personal about her but let’s face it, she uses this board as her TMI Wonderland and she has told us all in great detail about her health issues.

She has also told us repeatedly that she is a Mensa member. It boggles my mind that someone could be so smart yet not able to make sensible choices regarding her health when (it sure seems from her TMI posts) that the quality of her life has suffered if not her life itself in jeopardy in large part based on these choices she makes.

OF COURSE there is no rule against midnight pie, but is it smart for a diabetic with all of these health issues to make such bad choices? Do I believe for a minute that these things she talks about eating are the exception in her diet? Not for a second. So I guess to answer your question “Is it bad?” I’d have to say that it depends on the person. If someone I loved was in the shape that she’s in at her age I’d be scared shitless that they were going to lose their life before long so I would definitely think it’s bad to wake up and hit the pie just like if someone I loved was a heroin addict I’d think shooting up into their neck would be a bad idea.

It’s her business and not anyone else’s until she decides to share it here so often. We’ve heard about her skin issues, digestive challenges, etc etc over the years and it should surprise nobody that people read and form opinions about them based on that information.

Okay, that’s a good point–I wasn’t aware of her health problems. I’m not a diabetic and am in pretty good shape, so I guess my situation is a lot different than hers.

Hey, I thought this thread was about Stoid? I don’t recall her eating Midnight Pie? (Which sounds like a really shitty Hendrix cover band)
Gestalt, it was a joke – does it count if my cat eats midnight pie?

This is how I’m picturing her now.

Or, getting back to the vintage porn theme, maybe a '70s blaxploitation lesbian film.

I know there is a joke in there somewhere about a hairy pussy and pie, but I’m not astute enough to make it :frowning:

You know, like before the Innertubes took over. <1995.

I don’t think this particular thread is the right place for it, if you know what I mean.
Now, if you’ll excuse me, I’m going downstairs to have some midnight baked Alaska and wash it down with a midnight root beer float.

Oh yeah? How would you like it if someone just walked up to you and touched a Boston Cream pie to your lips? What then, smart girl? Huh? HUH?

Have you told the medical community that you can make choices about who your parents and grandparents are? Both my parents and three of my grandparents are or were diabetic. I also have aunts, uncles, and cousins on both sides of my family who are or were diabetic. Many of them eat what is basically a Mediterranean diet, and have done so long before it became popular. My father is first generation Sicilian American, that is, his parents came to the US from Sicily, and his father was a commercial fisherman…so they grew up eating a LOT of seafood, supplemented with veggies from the home garden. And they still turned up diabetic, despite being slim and eating right and all that crap. There’s a very strong genetic component to diabetes. Oh, and while I am a Texan, I do sometimes use words and phrases that are common in New England, where my father grew up. He refers to pizza as “pie”, and so do I, on occasion.

I almost NEVER have (sweet) pie (or cake, etc.) in the house. For that matter, I don’t usually keep potato or corn chips in the house, either. It’s a heck of a lot easier to not eat something if it’s not around. So I usually don’t have it around. I keep fruits and vegetables around to snack on. And I work those foods into my diet…I have found that I won’t eat enough veggies unless I have them as snacks as well as with meals.

My doctor is OK with me having an OCCASIONAL piece of pie or cake. OCCASIONAL. For the most part, my daily intake is less than 1000 calories. If I go over that every couple of weeks, it’s OK with him, as long as I’m not consuming something like 1000 calories* in one sitting. He’s happy with my slow but steady weight loss. He’s delighted that my ulcer finally healed. He’s happy with my blood sugar readings, both daily and long term.

When I talk about things like grilled cheese sandwiches made with bacon fat, it’s because I would love to eat more of them, and more often. Instead, what I do is put a very thin slice of cheese on a piece of bread and broil it in the toaster oven. It’s not nearly as yummy, and it’s not nearly as fun to write about. It’s not nearly as greasy, either. In fact, I can’t remember the last time we had bacon in this house. I love it, and so does my husband, but we eat it so rarely that I have to keep pitching it out. But really, who wants to hear about the roasted veggies I made?

I know exactly why I’m an insulin dependent diabetic, by the way, it’s because I had to have monthly steroid shots over quite a long period of time. I mean, I could get the shots, or I could quit breathing. The choice was a fairly easy one to make.

*I pretty much gave up fast food after looking at the calorie count in some of those combo meals.

You make such terrible choices concerning your health.
I mean the breathing thing I can sorta see where you’re coming from, but… not eating bacon? The horror! You really should take better care of yourself.

Lynn. Are you fucking kidding me. You can eat midnight pizza and twilight pie and dusk bacongrillcheeses. No need to defend yourself to that degree. Jesus.

ETA: It’s to the point that folks are asking permission to feed their cats after sundown.

Obviously these calculations are only ballpark, but I just ran some numbers through a basal metabolic rate calculator, and 1000 calories per day is about enough to sustain a woman who weighs around 85 pounds. I based this on a woman who is only 5’0", too. If you have been eating 1000 calories per day for a long time, you should be really skinny. Like, dangerously skinny. That is not a sustainable amount of food for an adult human being.

Edit: If I ever open a lesbian bar, I’m calling it “Twilight Pie.”

How are you still alive?
