In many states it is illegal to posses something in ‘that configuration’.
No, you’re not going to Sealion me into pulling up the laws in NY, NJ, or CT. That’s another “gun nut rabbit hole”.
Because I don’t fall down “gun nut” rabbit holes? Keep thinking that. Its shows you’re “smart”.
You have less of a clue about that than you do the laws of the states where the crimes were committed. Now you’re a doctor too? Go Pound Sand you ignorant Gun Nut.
My rant for the last day of the month. I am the exectuor of my mom’s estate. Everyone makes it so hard and I understand why you have to jump through a lot of hoops to protect the assets of the deceased. And some of it is my fault for procrastinating. I took off from work 5 times to visit the post office to have her mail forwarded to my address to no avail., so I never got any of the 1099 forms regarding her income. I finally got the idea that i would take her old 2022 IRS form to figure out what income she had. Ok so I started wokring on that and I piddled around with trying to contact all of the 1099 folks to try and get copies to file her 2023 taxes. The awyer notified me about 6 weeks ago that this needed to be completed by August 8. So I started working hard on acquiring this information. I have gotten all of them but one. I have emailed thier forms multiple times and have called over and over. All they will tell me is they will review the forms and let me know something in 1 to two weeks. I explained everytime I have contacted them that I need this 1099 form to file the taxes and not getting much help. I spoke to someone yesterday and he told e he would try to get it to me as soon as possible but when I pressed for a time frame he said thank you for calling and hung up.
Dang it, just send me the form.
Even if an AR-15 pattern legal in Nevada would be illegal in New York (and a decent chance it would be since the NY SAFE Act was the same sort of cosmetic only banning bullshit the 1994 AWB was) it doesn’t mean anything of importance. If anything, a rifle was the wrong weapon to bring when a pistol with a large capacity would be just as easy to get, even easier to conceal, and would likely fire a more deadly round than standard .223.
My end-of-month mini-rant. That seems to be progressing OK, but we’re only in the early innings.
A task that’s been sorta pending the last week-ish is the brokerage system my advisor uses is being rejiggered due to corporate merger / acquisition BS. So now I need a new account at a new website to see the same old stuff after I log in with my new login. And they also altered how and through which conventional bank they do cash management. Since the vast majority of my monthly spending money comes from that cash management pipeline into my personal checking account at yet another bank, getting the new plumbing all connected and leak-tested is kinda important.
So of course the brokerage sent out emails and reconfigured the old website to not work & send you to the new website to establish your new login several days before the new site was ready to accept enrollments. So all the enrollment attempts crashed with a generic “Oops. We’re working on it” error. Gee thanks. That was exciting over the weekend.
Then they separately sent out paper checks, and an ATM card, and a PIN. Nice and timely. Hooray! Each of which were screwed up somehow. Fortunately there’s a branch of the relevant bank just across the street from my building. Fells Cargo; perhaps you’ve heard of them? What could possibly go wrong … go wrong … go wrong …
Anyhow, a visit over there, a couple of convos with “Peggy” in Bangalore, and all is seemingly well. For sure the ATM card now works, which is the one thing I’ll probably never use again.
I’ve launched a couple of test transfer transactions in both directions & we’ll see what works and what bounces off.
Then we’ll have to configure my regular monthly “paycheck” and hope that works the first time too. Fortunately these last steps don’t need to succeed for a couple of weeks.
Late wife and I actually banked with them back in the late 90s. Before they got stupid and Bond Villain Evil rather than just being routinely big-bank-evil.
The atrophied logon for that customer relationship was still in their systems. Attached to emails and phone numbers (and snail mail addresses) that haven’t worked for 20+ years. Clearing out the obsolete data was harder than it ought to have been. They kept wanting to send verification emails and txts to the old places first. Nope, not gonna work.
But we persevered and that flail is behind me. I wonder if it will stay behind me? The problem with zombies is how do you kill the undead so they stay dead?
I worked on a federal grant today, and while I actually did get work done (not enough done, but I worked hard) it was completely demoralizing trying to read through and decipher the New and Improved Trumpified DOJ language. This grant, which is meant to serve victims of crime, mentions immigration and DHS law at least twenty times. Priority areas (which used to be things like, rural, urban or underserved populations) are now “serving American victims of crime" barf “combatting illegal immigration” (through fucking case management?) and includes some sketchy fucking language about submitting to "DHS requests.” This is for domestic violence and rape victims, you know, people for whom confidentiality is pretty fucking primary.
I raised concerns with my CEO and she said don’t worry, we’re protected by federal confidentiality law. She appears to think the law actually matters anymore in this country.
My progress was further hampered by an inability to just find the fucking statistics I’m looking for. I’m trying not to catastrophize but it was hard going today.
Oversight is an issue. ICE, the Department of Homeland Security, and Border Patrol all self audit. That has caused great concern as to, are these increases and searches due to criminal activity, or is it because of deportation?
I spoke with legislators who tell me that it is against the spirit of the Keep Washington Working law, and that to be in full compliance the Department of Licensing could request a court order, essentially, from the Department of Homeland Security and ICE. If they are doing a criminal investigation and need this type of information, they could get a court order and then have access to that data. Now, it’s essentially 24/7 access to all of this information.
Basically, people assumed that they’d be safe because state law is supposed to restrict what the federal government has access to, but ICE can get into everything the Department of Licensing has at any time. So no, you can’t just rely on the law protecting you because it might not be written as well as you think, and people might bend under pressure to violate it.
I look forward to that, if it’s true. I know that that cheap bastard will never pay me a dime for it, like it or no. The only question is whether he’ll chug his weak tea before or after.
And as for this happening on tonight’s Late Show, maybe that alone will shove the cheap lies back up “iiAndyiii”s well used ass and back up out of his liver lips.
