The shit storm will be against them. It would be open season on bearded Muslims on that English Isle. The mobs would be unstoppable for at least a few weeks. Even worse, the Muslims fight back. Now there’s the seeds of Civil War.
That’s what I meant about awakening the Sleeping Giant. Tensions have been building against the Radical Muslims ever since Iran fell to Ayatollah Khomeini in the late 70’s. People are fed up with the beheadings, kidnappings, rapes and anarchy in the Middle East. That’s one powder keg nobody can afford to set off.
I keep hoping the Moderates will clean their own house of the radicals before it’s too late. There’s no way they’ll be left on the sidelines if violence breaks out.

If mankind finds a solution to this quandary it will have to be one of our biggest and most notable achievements.
Right now I see no short term or even long term solution. The poison is spread through the Internet and the radical local mosques. Their numbers keep growing.
If the majority, moderate Muslims act then maybe the radical movement can be largely shut down. But, I’m not optimistic even they could do anything to stop these well armed radicals. Stopping an idea is nearly impossible.
Got to keep up some hope that a solution will be found. But, I have no idea what it could be. A world war pitting non-Muslim against Muslim could cost the lives of tens of millions and set back civilization’s accomplishments a thousand years.
<shrug> It’s pointless to be pessimistic. We’ve lived under the threat of all out Nuclear War our entire lives. We’re still standing. 
Somehow, some way mankind will get through this crises too.
And how exactly do you propose “the Moderates” do such house cleaning? You obviously fail to recognize a couple of things about Islam, so I’ll take your answer with a might big pillar of salt.
Yeah, well, guys fervent from a deity on their side aren’t always known for being master strategists.
‘Moderates’ in almost any context may tend to be ineffective at dealing with extremists of the same context, just because being moderate tends to involve less passion and less decisive action.
I’m not saying this is right, and I don’t have a solution, but I think it’s a big part of the reason that extremism carries on happening - extremism is hard to deal with, unless you go to another extreme to act against it.
It seems reasonable to me that a respected moderate cleric could counter a radical clerics teaching. In fact the moderate clerics are the only people that know the Koran and have the gravitas to do this. They could possibly sway a young teenager before they got fully radicalized.
I can’t think of any other way to negate a radicalized view of the Koran and Islam.
Such a tactic will involve risk. There would be terror attacks against the moderate mosques. Stopping the radicals can’t be done with words alone. But attacking moderates will cost the radicals support within the Islamic community. They would be seen for what they really are. Thugs with guns and the people they killed will be the martyrs. The radicals need a wide base of support and attacking other Muslims will undermine that support.
<shrug> I realize there’s no easy answers. Or quick solutions. But Westerners have no standing within the Islamic community. Its going to take a united effort with the moderate Muslims leaders to combat this radical threat.

I never said that I did. I simply used the basic assumption that knowledge is the best tool to fight ignorance. Who else can better explain the teachings of Islam than a trained and respected cleric? Obviously it has to be clerics from the same branch of Islam. A Sunni won’t accept teachings from a Shitte. Reaching out to the young people before they get radicalized seems like the only way to shut down the radicals supply of fresh young recruits.
If knowledge and teaching doesn’t or can’t work in this situation then everybody is in deep trouble. This problem will never be entirely solved through warfare. You can’t kill ideas and beliefs. Of course the current violent radicals have to be stopped through direct combat. But new people are being recruited every day to take their place. It’s a never ending problem until the source of recruits is curtailed.
This entire board is based on the belief that knowledge is the best tool to fight ignorance. I simply thought it would apply to this situation too.
Feel free to jump in and provide you own solutions to this problem. There’s nothing else that I can offer. I don’t have any specialized knowledge of Islam.

This is the growing anger that I was referring to in the OP. People have had enough and it wouldn’t take much to boil over into the streets. One event, like killing a popular and beloved Monarch is all it would take for anti Muslim rioting to break out in countries all over the world.
As mentioned up thread that’s exactly what the radicals want. This situation is turning into a powder keg and no one has a clue what to do.
Its very unfortunate that innocent people are feeling the brunt of the anger. I see it getting much worse unless World leaders show leadership and find a way to stop the rise of radical Islam.

Your mistake is thinking Islam is the issue. It all really has very little to do with Islam.
The roots of terrorism lie in the fact that there are a lot of young men, all around the world, who see no hopeful future for themselves, beyond (at the very best) becoming tiny, obedient cogs in a huge global machine working for someone else’s benefit: no chance for glory or anything that will give them self respect, or make their lives seem worthwhile. Radical Islam is just one of the languages in which their frustration gets expressed, and through which it gets channeled. Tim McVeigh, and Eric Rudolph, and the other white American boys who do stuff like murdering abortion doctors and shooting up their high school, express their frustration and justify their murders in the language of white power and, often, some perverted version of Christianity, just as ISIS and Al Qaeda express it in terms of a perverted version of Islam, but it really doesn’t matter what idiom they use. Some guys now seem to be psyching themselves up to be terrorists in the language of how much they love “traditional” videogames that feature big cartoonish boobs, fer chrissake! (Maybe none of those guys will actually end up killing anyone, but I would not count on it.)
