Anyway, I personally like his style on the radio. On television, it’s okay.
How do y’all feel about him?

My ex used to drone on and on about this Jim Rome guy, and since listening to sports radio is just soooo high on my list of delights I usually politely listened but didn’t really care about it.
Then I saw his show for the first time. Yowsers! This is no typical radio jock. He is extremely bright and cynical and funny and to the point. His TV show is pretty weak, kind of a diluted version of his real ‘smack’, but I’ve listened to the radio show lots of times now and actually enjoyed hearing him talk about sports… weird! He’s also got a website but it seems to be outdated and a little hard to navigate.
The first time I watched his show I also got a tiny crush on him…

Rome is smart and has good sports knowledge, but ultimately the guy winds up simply falling into a recent trend of being sensationalist and an asshole for no other reason than to be that way and provoke and shock.
My favorite sports radio guy is Ken Beatrice, who is currently on The Team (WTEM) in Washington DC and also on the net via Real Audio. The guy is sharp, knows almost everything, will call you back if he doesn’t know something and has to find it out, will take calls on the air, doesn’t cut off callers, and is generally wonderful. He also is v ery critical of the local teams, and given that regions media bias towards worshipping those teams, i find that refreshing as well.

Didn’t Jim Rome get his ass kicked live on “SportsCenter” a few years ago?
I saw him recently with Pete Rose on his show, and he didn’t seem to want to just throw Pete softballs, or let him get away with his pat answers to the same questions. (Although Pete makes good points about the hypocrisy of baseball taking ad money from state lotteries and casinos.)

Heh - I do dig on Romey. He’s SO bright and lightning quick. And the sharpest tongue in most any media I can think of offhand.
He was indeed attacked on his show by (I believe it was) Jim Evert … because Jim called him “Chris” as in “Chris Evert-Lloyd”. He was warned once, but persisted.

I think he has more fun ripping on his audience for stuttering than making cogent sports takes.
But he does seem to like Bug-aha, but he needs a funnier moniker for Lincoln.
