Tony Kornheiser...Thanks for the laughs.

Well, I guess he could still make me laugh on TV or in print…it’s not like he’s dead, he’s just off the radio everyday. Which Stinks.

I just listened to the final moments of the Tony Kornheiser show. Now my mid day routine must change. TK’s radio show always went beyond the scores, strategies, players & fans…he talked about life, and sport as a part of it. He never failed to entertain & provoke some thought. Although I listen to all kinds of sports talk shows, for me they are mostly interchangeable. Tony however, is one of a kind. His show has gotten me through some long days, brought countless smiles to my face & also inspired my user name. So, from one Long Island boy to another, Thanks to Mr. Tony.

I invite ya’ll to discuss…

Tony Kornheiser…his writing, TV work, radio work, whatever…

Or

Why sports talk radio listeners are dopes

Either topic will enlighten & entertain me, which I can use a little bit of now that Tony’s off the air. Thanks gang.

ESPN is a little too New York for my tastes; I prefer the LA voices of Tony Bruno and Jim Rome myself.

I listened to most of it this morning. Sad, really. I always enjoyed his show more than any of the other sports talk shows. I loved that no-athelete policy, it made the show more enjoyable to listen to. I will miss his show in the mornings.

Whoa there man!

You F’in scared me for a second there. Kornheiser is great and I can’t wait for the TV show based on his writing in the fall.

The sports world needs Tony Kornheiser.

I will say the title of this thread does make it sound like he passed away a couple of hours ago.

I used to pretty much loathe the TK-man from DC-town, but I have to admit that he grew on me to the point that I will now miss hearing him. He is definitely just as intelligent as he was opinionated. He also has a gift with wording. Many of his show starting monologues were absolutely golden.

I’m kind of interested to hear why he really left. A few days ago, he pretty much said the “cutting back” thing was just a cover story. Of course, he might have just been messing around when he said that too. Also, is The Duke, Dan Davis, still going to be doing the Sports Center spots in the morning?

Oh yeah… Tony, just shoot the dog.

Sorry…Didn’t mean to scare you there **Justin_Bailey. ** I do agree that the sports world needs Tony. PTI will have to be enough for now.

RougeRacer – I had a similar reaction when I first heard his show. He didn’t talk sports like anyone else did, and it was annoying. I did get past that, and now I find most other sports talk shows annoying. He’s also flat out said that he will be back on the radio in some capacity, probably on a local (D.C.) level. I suppose if that happens, there’s no chance of the show making it on the air here in NY (it’s not now, I hear the show through my ‘E-mail machine.’) The Duke is going to remain as the update anchor for the new show (Hosted by Colin Cowherd.)

JohnT- A little too New York? I’d respond to that, but then I’d be in clear violation of my East Coast Bias. Seriously, I love that about Tony. Plus there’s the extra pride of being a fellow Long Islander, so when he mentions Hewlit High School or the town of Massapequa, I’m so in on it. I could never get into Rome…he’s just so damn hip, kind of the anti-Tony really.

Stinks!

I, too, will miss the show. It was a high point of my work day. No atheletes to suck up to (not that he would), always funny,
a genuine orignal show. TK Stack Money will be missed.

If Tony Bruno is an “LA voice,” I’m a gay Martian.

I remember when “Pardon The Interruption” started, Kornheiser was as STIFF AS A BOARD! He did grow into the part, though.

I was one of TK’s regular callers when his show started on WTEM in Washington more than 10 years ago. His enginner, Greg Garcia (the World’s foremost authority) and I were at Frostburg State together and worked on the college radio station together. My schtik used to be the ‘stump the band’ contest where I’d call in with obscure rock and roll/sports trivia and try to stump the host and Andy. I even won the ‘best stump the band question - 1993’ award.

I hadn’t had much chance to listen to him lately (the last few months) but certainly did most days before I left DC.

Really, TK was like the SDMB. Proof positive that just because you were a sports radio show (Internet MB) you didn’t have to be juvenile and dumb. Intelligence has it’s place and that was it. None of the others add up.

I’m thrilled that he’s off the radio.
It wasn’t carried here, so now maybe he’ll put the time into something I can see/hear.

Although Bruno is based out here in L.A., he is quite the Philadelphian.

I always liked the Kornheiser show, but I haven’t heard it in almost a year due to schedule changes. Can someone fill me in on whether this was TK’s choice or if ESPN asked him to roll it back? I only ask because I heard Dan Le Batard specifically say on his show that he wasn’t taking TK’s spot, so it made me wonder if ESPN was fishing for a replacement.

“The Duke” Dan Davis can’t go anywhere…he still has to do the SportsCenters for The Dan Patrick Show…and he has to be there for when they need someone to remember stuff that happened 50 years ago.

“There goes Tony’s mailbag…”

Damn, now that’s disappointiing.

Absolutely.

So far I’ve spent the week listening to Colin Cowheard, trying to give the guy a chance. I don’t know if it’s me thinking “He’s not Tony, therefore he stinks!” or if he just does nothing for me. Either way, I’ll actually give him the chance to grow on me another week or so.

I remember one sunny day, when Tony read one of my E-Mails on the air. It was about Amy Fisher. Ahhh…Long Islanders.

I too am having a tough time warming up to Cowherd – I think I’d rather have, heaven help me, Dan Patrick.

The Show before he left TK said he would go a half hour early — AND DID – so I missed his final words – was it a rip of Rome? I got that from a later caller. I loved the show.

I remember once, seeing Tony in a car, as he drove by he pointed his finger at me in affirmation …

Good riddance, the guy was an opinionated idiot. I hope he retires for good.

I live near DC, and had no idea he had a radio show! Now I’m disappointed that I’ll never hear it. I read all his columns in the Washington Post, and enjoy seeing him on the various shows he’s on.

If he’s getting his own show, I think it’s great. I can’t wait to see it.
