Jimmy Carter - Haiti

Did Jimmy Carter win a Nobel Peace Prize for his work in Haiti? If so, what exactly did he do? What were the issues he faced and what was the resolution?

He was awarded the Nobel Peace Prize in 2002 “for his decades of untiring effort to find peaceful solutions to international conflicts, to advance democracy and human rights, and to promote economic and social development.” Link.

From the Nobel biography (through acsenray’s link):

In 1978, Anwar al-Sadat, President of the Arab Republic of Egypt, and Menachem Begin, Prime Minister of Israel, jointly received the Nobel prize for peace for working out the Camp David Accords, establishing peace between Egypt and Israel. I seem to recall some people claiming at the time that Carter should have been included for his work as moderator.

Wow, that sounds like a lifetime achievement award. I was aware scientist such as economists received their prizes sometimes decades after their work, but I always assumed the Peace Price was for current events.
