Jimmy Fallon - Why? Oh, God, why?

kill off the weekend update. it’s painfully played out. i like dennis miller, but i didn’t like wu that much even when he did it. it seems like ajay leno segment to me.

and brian fellows is dope. it’s really the only thing that makes me laugh (occasionally) on snl. maye because it’s so bad, but nevertheless, it’s sometimes hilarious.

and norm macdonald was pretty funny. i can’t remember any characters he did except for burt reynolds, but his attitude just cracked me up. he didn;t give a fuck, really.

fallon is decent. he laughs in every scene, though. maybe live tv isn’t really for him.

the worst snl-ers are the recent crop of women. in the late eighties, nora dunn and jan hooks were probably the last marginally funny women comedians on the show. cheri o’teri was terrible. molly shannon made me turn off the television. julia sweeney and “pat” made me want to vomit. then there were a ton of bit players who sucked.

i always thought jay mohr was funny but he never really got much time on the air, other than his walken imitations.

First, Jimmy Fallon is hot. That’s probably why he’s the flavor of the month right now. I dated a guy who looked exactly like him, whose name, coincidentally, was Jimmy. Mmmm.

However, I never see Fallon doing much else other than Weekend Update.

Norm MacDonald did a hilarious Letterman impression, and his Burt Reynolds was killer.

As for Tracy Morgan, I love “Brian Fellow’s Safari Planet” as well as his Starr Jones.

To each his own…

Jimmy Fallon is hot? Wow, do my tastes differ widely from some people… He’s sorta kinda funny, but he’s not remotely attractive, at least through my eyes. At least Weekend Update with him and Tina Fey is watchable

I hated, Hated, HATED Will Ferrel. I wanted to stab him over and over with a fork. And when he teamed up with Cheri O’teri?

Oh.
My.
God.

I wanted to slash my wrists over and over and over again. Terrible, just terrible. He was only funny in two sketches…Celebrity Jeopardy (which had him as a straight man, tellingly) and his later Bush impressions (the first ones sucked).

Jimmy Fallon can be hilarious…he is pretty darn good at impressions, and I can appreciate that.

But Tracy Morgan is the best thing on that show. Seriously. Astronaut Jones? Starr Jones? Even just playing himself? Hilarious. Brain Fellows kinda bites, though.

Seriously, Tracy Morgan is such a treat…thank God he’s on the show, otherwise everything would probably suck. Except Fey’s WU…she IS pretty darn good at it. Fallon’s too goofy up there.

But Will Ferrel is so frickin’ funny when he’s not on SNL. The problem here is SNL and their writers. Yes, I know that the stars do some of the writing, but apparently someone in control won’t let them do any good stuff.

SNL goes through bad spells. When it first started, it was entertaining and funny. Then it lost the magic until about the Carvey/Myers/Hartman/Miller era. One of these days it will swing back and pick up some funny performers/writers. (Soon, I hope!)

Will Ferrell isn’t funny at all, on SNL or off. His agent has done a great job marketing him as being the cat’s ass, but he can’t deliver a joke to save his own life. His timing is so bad I sometime wonder if he’s deaf.

Fallon isn’t funny either. He’s also remarkably ugly, so it can’t be his looks.

Fortunately, the current crop of Second City performers is pretty good. Maybe Lorne Michaels will hire some of them in the next few years.

Let me lay down some FACTS for y’all:

  1. Jimmy Fallon is cool, and more versatile than you think. He played Nick Cage, Robin Williams, and Dave Mathews to a tee in Celebrity Jeopardy skits. The problem with him is that he’s a pretty boy, and it shows that he knows it on Weekend Update.

  2. Norm MacDonald is like some kind of God. I’m a card-carrying and powdered-wig-wearing member of his fan club.

  3. Will Ferrel is good, but he’s kind of a Phil Hartman-esque type who plays in almost every sketch even if he has little reason to be there, and since most sketches are awful, some of the skits suckiness sticks onto him . Off SNL, he’s great. His work in Jay and Silent Bob Strike Back was funky fresh.

Count me in as a big fan of Ferrel, Fallon, AND Norm MacDonald. All three are among my favorite cast members of the last 10 years. Phil Hartman was #1. Mike Meyers #2.

I’ve gone off about Farrell before, but he is horrible no matter what the project. I was gritting my teeth during every scene of his in JASBSB. Did he escape from the film SuperTroopers or something? He was distracting with his cheesy overacting just like Chris Rock was.

downbylaw, it was Norm’s pathetic attitude that makes me hate his work. He should get a talk show if that’s the extent of his talents - acting smarmy and playing Bob Dole. His sitcom was TV wallpaper.
