Robert Goulet uses the same lyrics, although he may have learned them from Bart.
Southern California 1970s kid - another “and the joker got away”
For me, too, it was always “the Joker got away.” The alternatives offered in this thread don’t seem to work as well, IMHO.
As evidence that my computer is spying on me, soon after I read this thread, YouTube suggested this video to me (which focuses more on alternatives for the second line than the fourth one):
I’m a leg man.
Joker got away here, too.
Illinois, “Commissioner broke his leg.” It rhymes with egg.
Joker got away here too. There are so many weird ditties buried in our brains. When I was singing this in my head, it somehow segued into:
Comet
It makes your teeth turn green
Comet
It tastes like gasoline
Comet
It makes you vomit
So get some Comet and vomit todaaaaaaaay!!!
In Australia, the only version I know of was
Jingle bells, Batman smells, Robin runs away
And then in my dad’s day it took a sharp left turn into…
Father Christmas lost his whiskers smoking Craven A (hey!)
After that brand died, we all changed to
Wonder Woman lost her bosom flying TAA
IDK if anyone came up with any more versions once Trans-Australian Airlines became likewise defunct…
Now, see, that’s the one I remember word-for-word the same.
To the tune of the theme from “The Bridge on the River Kwai.”
I’m Popeye the Sailor Man
I live in a garbage can
I turn on the heater
and burn off my peter
I’m Popeye the Sailor Man
Or
I turn on the gas and burn off my ass
I am astounded that nobody mentioned the version I know:
“…and went back to the cave.”
mmm
The guy who taught it to me specified that there were two versions, and taught me both.
I learned it as “Listerine”, but my cousin who learned it the same school year but in the Atlanta area learned it as gasoline.
Well you think it’s butter, but it’s snot. It’s Chiffon.
Who started this.
Joker broke his leg and Joker got away
Did you hear about the Nudist Colony’s Christmas show?
They were singing Jingle Balls, Jingle Balls jingle all the way.
That’s how I grew up singing it with my school friends.
This is starting to be an annual tradition, including posting this video:
-DF
“Robin laid an egg” and “the joker got away.” Chicago, grew up in the 80s.
I’m Popeye the Sailor Man
I live in a garbage can
I eat all the worms
and spit out the germs
I’m Popeye the Sailor Man
From the 70’s in Southern California, along with the joker getting away.
