"Jingle Bells Batman Smells..."

“Robin Laid an Egg
The Batmobile Lost its wheel
And…”

When you were growing up what was the next line? For me it was “and the commissioner broke his leg”. I never heard “And the Joker got away” until I was an adult (it may have even been when they did that way on Batman TAS ). What was it for you?

As a kid in the 1970s, in Illinois and Wisconsin, I heard “the Joker got away” more often, but I definitely remember hearing both versions.

And Robin just got laid?

Another kid from the Seventies, here. I only heard the Joker version of that line.

In the 60’s I heard it as “joker got away”

A thousand miles away
Blows his nose in Cheerios
And eats them every day.

Never heard the Commissioner version, always Joker got away.

The first time I heard it was when Bart Simpson sang it.

And yes, the Joker (Mark Hamill) sang it that way, too, and added his own verse

The joker got awaaaay ~ hey!

Or the joker took ballet, less commonly.

While we’re here? What about:
Joy to the world, the teacher’s dead
I barbecued her/his head!
If you’re looking for the body,
I flushed it down the potty
Round and round it goes,
just like GI Joes
Around and aaaaround, around it goes!

Texas, 70s, “…and Robin ran away.”

Florida kid, graduated high school in ‘96.

“And the joker got away!”

Also, a relevant message:

Always “The Joker got away”. Kid in the 1970s in PA.

the version i knew is:

jingle bells batman smells

robin laid an egg

batmobile lost a wheel and the joker got away

Grew up in Brooklyn and Queens in the 70’s. “Joker got away.”

It’s always been “…and the Joker got away.”

Which is much more relfective of actual Batman plotlines than Gordon breaking his leg.

kid from Michigan in the 70’s. “joker got away”

Southern New Mexico, 1970s.

2nd line was “Robin ran away”.
4th line was “And the Joker got away”.

“commissioner ran away” - that makes no sense, but it is how I sing it in my head. MN, 1960’s. I should check with the siblings, I’m semi-famous for mondegreens.

At least if he’s prepared.

I suddenly thought maybe I’d misremembered this, given all the "joker ran away"s in the thread, but googling says I wasn’t alone. [I mean, I could still be misremembering, but at least I have company of some kind]
