Bonus points to whoever can tell me where that came from.
Joan stars in a zombie play at school.
This should be great.
See you at 9pm!

Well, that was interesting.
Somewhat unrealistic. I can’t see a director changing the play four days before opening night. I don’t think Joe Broadway was God until the end. We’ve seen God pop into existing people, so I’m going to stick with that premise, unless someone wants to propose an alternate theory.
My goodness, but Glynnis grew a pair, didn’t she? Impressed the hell out of Grace, too.
Was that Amber Tamblyn singing?
I would have liked more explanation about why Andy dropped the lawsuit. A sudden change of heart right before they convene before the judge seemed way out of left field. I understand his parents were pushing the suit, but I wanted a confrontation, with a judge laughing until he cried before dismissing the suit.
Poor Adam. Joan isn’t going to necessarily look for the same college as he is. But I’m glad she wants him to go to the best school for his dreams, just as she’s going to seek the best school for hers.
Will seemed to get over his angst rather quickly. I know the dropped lawsuit had a lot to do with it, but inviting Andy to live with them? :dubious:
Good episode, but it stretched credibility at times.
Ivylass - I thought it was God the whole time. Or rather, I didn’t realize it was God until the end, but I think it was He the entire time. I liked his interaction with Adam. And yeah, it was stretching a point that he kept changing it until the last minute, but at least they pointed out that it was not the way things were supposed to be done. They didn’t expect you to believe that HS plays opperate like that. Speaking of HS plays - what ever happened to “Our Town” and “South Pacific”? It would be cool if Amber sang the song - she maight’ve inherited her dad’s talents.
Can you tell me what other time you saw God inhabit the body of a person?
StG
Really good ep. I thought that was probably Amber singing; I’ve heard her sing before, and I’m pretty sure it was her. Nice to see God comes in the form of gay men, too
It was a damned funny episode…I loved Carl’s reactions to the constant changes. It was also nice to see Joan do something well…too bad she doesn’t want to keep doing it.
From the dialogue, I am fairly certain that Joe Broadway was God the whole time btw.
He temporarily took over the body of the stenographer during Joan’s deposition. The lawyers were taking notes while Joan was having this completely off-the-wall conversation with the stenographer, like they didn’t even notice. Then, click, time starts back up again.
God so far has not interfered directly. That’s why, since Joe Broadway saw Adam’s pictures and asked him to design the set, I didn’t think it was God. That’s too direct an interaction. Up until now God has given Joan tasks and then sat back and let her learn from them.
NotWithoutRage, that is not the first time we’ve seen Gay School Clerk God. He’s a trip, isn’t he?
Do we KNOW it was temporary?
I believe so. IIRC, the stenographer had some normal, legal-type interaction with the attorneys as some point previous.
I still don’t think God would swoop in and let Adam design the set. By having Joan try out, Adam was put in the theater to wait for her, and of course he would doodle, and Joe Broadway would wander back and glance at it. So God set the events in motion only.
I’m glad the lawsuit storyline is over. I think the show has more interesting avenues to explore than a courtroom showdown.
What’s with the Duff sisters invading “Joan”? The preview showed Hilary Duff guesting on next week’s show, and according to TV Tome, Hilary’s sister Haylie is slated for at least three episodes beyond that.
I’m also glad we didn’t get dragged into the courtroom. That would have taken too long and taken too much away from other more interesting aspects.
Well, now that things are going more smoothly overall, you have to wonder what they’re cooking up for the future eps.
Aes, in case you should wander in here: I wasn’t able to tape this one. Will catch it on the rerun.
“My therapist says with a voice like mine I have to work on my humility.”
I really adored this episode and that was the best line in it.
Lucy not being around also helps a lot.
This one wrapped up quite a few loose ends.
The lawsuit is gone. They signed a waiver, which means it can’t ever come back.
Will is starting to “believe” again.
Andy and Kevin are reconciled.
Will is OK with Andy.
Joan has finally found something she’s really good at.
Joan isn’t going to specifically try to go to the same college Adam does.
Maybe a few too many loose ends. Where do we go from here?
Grace and Glynnis were great. Glynnis is looking quite good these days… but then, so is Grace.
I bet that Joan, Adam, and Grace all wind up at Dawson State.
After Will’s “no crying!” to Helen, I was waiting for him to shed a tear during the play.
No Lucyfer. She wasn’t even mentioned. I like that.
I’m not sure I like God being so directly involved in the action. Usually, he just starts the ball rolling.
I don’t think He “possesses” existing people. His avatars are Him all the time.

That’s why I don’t think he was Joe Broadway until the end. Prior to that, the director was nervous and hyper and being sarcastic to the kids. Then, on opening night, he’s just sitting back and laughing, waiting to see what happens next.
You know, it’s no wonder Andy is so messed up. After the accident, he and his family moved to LA, where he got hooked on drugs and wound up being the unwitting tool of terrorists trying to smuggle a virulent biological weapon into the US. If it hadn’t been for Jack Bauer, he’d be dead.
Funny how I so look forward to Friday nights at 8 PM now. grins I love this show so much! I especially enjoyed the tender scenes between Adam and Joan near the end as she urged him to go to the school that was best for him, even if it wasn’t one that she could get into.
I did miss my overhead shots of Arcadia, though (actually Wilmington DE, my birthplace :)). Was that supposed to be ICE at the YMCA?! I had to laugh at the attempt to show winter in MD, especially as we’ve only had a light dusting of snow (so far!) this season. I’m also wondering if Dawson State equals Towson State, a Baltimore-area university. Amber certainly has the Tamblyn talent–that was definitely her singing.
I liked the teacher (in the play) being dressed as Ms. Lischak. Nice touch, that.
My memory isn’t what it used to be, but didn’t the commercials for this episode have Joan singing off-key?
I’m only slightly familiar with the show, but the girlchild wants updates when she can’t be around to watch it. Only problem I have in relaying this information - who’s Lucy?
Lucy’s Will’s boss at the precint.
Lucy wants to bring Will up on charges of criminal sexiness and place his penis in protective custody.
I live in Baltimore, right near Towson, and I figured “Dawson State” was a stand-in for Towson State (now Towson University).
I was kinda “meh” on this one. I didn’t get the whole “random” thing God was telling Joan, and also didn’t quite get whether the director was God the whole time or if he was just God at the end, when it was all falling apart and Joan learned her Lesson Of The Week.
When have we seen Gay God before? He was funny, and I don’t remember him.
