God tells Joan to join the debating team!!
Did you notice who the guard-as-God at the beginning was? BOOGER!
I thought this wasn’t one of their stronger episodes – the scenes with Scott the stutterer (that was his name, right?) seemed very rushed, for one thing.
However, I must state for the record that I want an Adam Rove of my own. Sigh.
I thought
“Joan, do you know what grace is?”
“yeah, Pissed”
was hillarious…even considering the context. I liked the episode as a whole, especially when Joan finds her voice. She debates like I do.
And once again, Joan cries and the waterworks start here too.
I liked seeing that little glimpse into Grace’s softer side. She usually keeps it so well hidden.
Thank you! I couldn’t figure that out, even though he seemed so familiar. His voice reminded me of Wallace Shawn, but definitely not right.
I didn’t realize the depth of emotion that Joan has in regard to her dad. She’s really scared that he won’t come back when he goes out on a case.
Well, viva, there was that time God told her to get her driver’s license and she almost hit her dad with the car.
I missed the first five minutes, so why were they installing security measures? I’m glad Joan was able to help Scott, and I hope we see more of him. I was a little disappointed to see Kevin back off from Rebecca, but I understand he may not be ready yet.
Was it really legal for Helen to throw away all the other applications and just leave hers in Price’s (what an ass) in box?
It was nice to see the warm side of Grace’s prickly character. She looked stunned as Joan went off, almost like she was going to cry.
Luke and Glynis and Nerd Foreplay…that was great. And Grace didn’t seem too bummed out when she saw them kissing. She sort of smiled an “attaboy” smile. Granted, I missed the dance episode, so what happened?
Friedman needs a haircut and new clothes.
I’m glad Adam and Joan are okay again. I thought they handled that perfectly…two teenaged kids giddy after reconciling from a fight, they kiss, then they don’t know what to do with that.
I was a little troubled by Joan getting cocky, telling God she’s getting better at his missions. Isn’t there something about pride goeth before a fall?
I love this show. So does my daughter…she wants to be Grace when she grows up.
I like ass-y Price. He’s usually believably smug and occasionally believably down-to-earth.
I’m also very happy with the way the writers are portraying God. Each week I’m more and more impressed with the wisdom behind his/her lines. For instance, I like how God cares that Joan does well in school, because her duty is to be a student at this time in her life, and you can just look at the lives of the saints to see how important duty is to those who follow God. In less capable writers’ hands, I could see God being made to act like helping people trumps attending class/doing schoolwork, but here God is saying both are equally important.
“Elegant…Moron”
Luke and Glynnis in the hall; beautifully choreographed and photographed, (how many of us had their first kiss on school grounds?).
Grace has a moment of Grace.
Mrs. Fool and I really look forward to friday nights now.
In the dance episode, a boy (I forget his name, but he’s the one they referenced as having brought a gun to school), went to the dance with Joan. He was a loaner-type, and it ended with him leaving the dance with Joan and Will finding him somewhere with a loaded gun. He talked the kid into giving him the gun and took him into custody. We saw Old-Lady God again at school and she explained how Joan helped him, even though he would be going to jail.
It faded out on the crowded school hallway, freeze-framing on various students with a quiet-echoing gunshot sounding. Sort of a what-if scenario.
You could find a good recap at www.televisionwithoutpity.com .
Luke and Grace went to the dance together and kissed, but nothing really came of it.
What’s with that uptight martinet of a chem teacher? I wonder if they’ll ever explore her character in more depth.
