Job Hunting Expedition tomorrow.

I’m calling in sick to my bloated corporate office where it doesn’t much matter if I show up or not (though they pay me like it does), and going to find a job in retail.

I plan to hit every bookstore between Boston and Worcester with resume in hand. My objective has changed from, “Position as a Business Analyst/Project Manager that capitalizes on extensive experience in Project Life-Cycle, Customer Relationship Management, change management, operations, sales, and marketing in a fast-paced environment driven by change and innovation” to “Position as a professional bookseller specializing in children’s literature.”

I fully expect to take about a 50% paycut. I’m scared to death, but I think it’s absolutely vital for my and my family’s happiness that I make this change.

Mr. Elf says I’ll have to give up my DirecTV. He hasn’t mentioned the cleaning service, but I suppose he doesn’t have to.

Hmmm…no worried smiley. Hopefully soon I’ll need a “take this job and shove it” smiley.

Go get 'em!

Hopefully you won’t need a :smack: or a :wally: or a  or a :o or or a  or an  .

And hopefully, eventually, you will need a :stuck_out_tongue: for your bloated corporate HR person, when you stroll in and quit.

And for your stroll out-- here’s a

Thanks, DDG. Actually my HR person IS rather bloated - she’s due with her first child any day now. I’ll probably have to quit to a temp.

Thanks for the support - I’ll check in tomorrow.
M’Elf

I wish you luck. Life is too short to spend a third of your day a place you hate. Go get 'em

Damn straight. To quote Cowboy Mouth:

“Life is more than getting paid
Find a way to make a living having fun”

Yea! I have an interview on Saturday at Barnes and Noble!! The manager sounded excited that my main interest is children’s literature, so I really hope they have an opening in that department. I’m trying so hard not to get my hopes up, but I’m just incredibly excited. I’ve been at my current company for 9 years, so I sort of feel like I’m leaving home for the first time. It’s a very odd feeling.

Jonathan, earlier this year I saw Cowboy Mouth in Boston. I was wound up really tight, and that show provided the most release I’d had in months. Your quote really hits home.
