I have a job interview tomorrow morning. I’m nowhere near excited about the actual work (boy, that expensive degree has sure helped me get…this interview for a position as a cashier at a grocery store!), but I am in desperate need of a paycheck.
I know the general rule of thumb is to dress a bit nicer than that type of position generally requires. So, for a job as a grocery store cashier, dress slacks and a nice blouse should be okay, right? I don’t want to overdress (it’s a part-time, 15 cents above minimum wage position), but obviously, I certainly don’t want to underdress. Basically - does the black slacks, nice button-down shirt*, and sensible dress shoes sound appropriate? I could go with khakis or a skirt with tights instead, but I don’t really have any “nice” shoes that I can wear with khakis, and I loathe wearing skirts (and also have a shoe problem there). Thoughts?
(Why yes, I am a bit nervous about my first promising job interview in three and a half months of unemployment, how could you tell?)
*Uh, if you’re into details, either a light-blue long-sleeve shirt, or a white-with-black-teeny-tiny-dots shirt and a black cardigan sweater.
