Job offer..Nigeria

6:00 am my husband received a phone call from the UK. It was a head hunter for an oil company. The guy was begging him to work on a project in…Nigeria. Full family status living in a secure modern compound. 2500 dollars a day plus plus. The answer is nope. Having survived Libya, he has no desire to go back to that. I told him he’s still wanted to work overseas. That’s a good thing to keep his name out there. Since we moved back 18 months ago he has been offered jobs in five countries. Nothing has grabbed him.

$2500 a day? That’s some good money, but Nigeria + oil doesn’t spell secure family living for me. Wise choice, I think.

I wouldn’t take it either but for curiosity’s sake, Lagos or Port Harcourt?

My father worked for Bechtel in the late 70’s and early 80’s as a project manager and went to Saudi to work on the Jubail project. My parents had divorced and he took advantage of the chance to go. He was previously offered a job there when my parents were still married, but my mom wouldn’t go. He still has friends who work the international circuit for companies like Bechtel and he says it takes a certain personality to be able to do it. He says he is too old to travel like that anymore and will only take jobs in the US and Canada.

No amount of money would induce me to take that job. What exactly does your husband do to command such an offer?

Lagos and environmental engineer…jobs with Shell. Minnie LunaWe lived in Saudi Arabia for 11 years and the Qatar for 3.5. Yes it does take a certain type of person to do international work. You make good money but you sure do earn it.

I have spent some time in both Lagos (family location for my company) and Port Harcourt (non-family location). I like both as a young free and single lady but I can honestly say I would only take a rotation job now. I felt safer there than I did in Angola.
