Why would I bother?
This thread contains actual evidence of what the admin staff thinks about the concerns of the users.
“The users”? How about a minority of users?
Seetheart, all the threads express the opinions of a minority of users.
And I don’t post on the behalf of anyone but myself, Snugglebottoms.
Really? It looks to me like you’re speaking on behalf of an assumed Silent Majority.
Nope, just myself…and my amazing ability to count posts in a thread.
You must be new here.
I don’t much care one way or the other, but it did surprise me to read that thread in MPSIMS, because it is an ad (and admitted as much right up front), of the sort that I thought belonged in the Marketplace forum, and the mods here are usually pretty strict about making sure threads are posted in the correct forum and not cross-posted to more than one forum.
But that’s not what I said.
There is a wide range of threads on this board – not all threads will be pleasing to all people. Your mileage – and your choice – may vary. You are not forced to participate in anything you don’t want to be in. We do ask that you give other people the courtesy of respecting their choices and be civil.
That’s what I said. And that’s what I meant.
MODERATOR NOTE:
It’s getting quite heated in here and it doesn’t need to be.
This is not the Pit where you get to slap other people around. If that’s what you want to do, take it there.
Dial it down. Be civil.
Thank you for acknowledging that. As I pointed out, among the small number of posters who have expressed any opinion on the subject (out of 700+ who have viewed the threads), the majority are either fine with it or don’t care.
Only if you wish your opinion to be taken seriously by others. Otherwise, you’re welcome to imagine whatever you like about the opinions or motivations of members.
I hadn’t said anything earlier because others echoed my opinion, but as you appear to be seeking opinions, mine is that I’d prefer to see such threads confined to the Marketplace forum.
Wait, doesn’t “I’m sure it’s not a scam” mean the same as “I know it’s not a scam”?
I personally didn’t have a problem with the postings. I probably would have preferred there be only one thread instead of three, but that’s not a big deal to me.
There have been plenty of other threads talking about things less interesting to me, and I successfully ignored them. This one had the chance to help some fellow Dopers, and was able to sink or float on its own merits.
If it became a constant posting, I might feel differently. But if it did get that common, the posts could be spun off into their own forum.
Great…now there is another cross-posted thread, this time from a guy wanting money for his film project.
Why is cross posting suddenly allowed, when it hasn’t been allowed before? If this stuff is going to be allowed, why can’t it be confined to the Marketplace?
Haven’t charity request always Ben in MPSIMS?
“Marketplace”?
What is this ‘Marketplace’, that’s been mentioned?
IMHO, 'tis all ‘Much ado over nothing.’
(Or something like that, I’m not all that well versed on Shakespeare.)
D&R
As an aside, shouldn’t any thread with POWERPOINT in the title be posted in The BBQ Pit?
I’ve been debating with myself for several days whether my opinion is worth enough to bother writing it down, so forgive me if I’m repeating something I haven’t read, but here are my two cents’ worth:
-I was surprised to see those threads, and was getting ready to report them before I saw that they’d been approved. I’m in the “these are really spammy” camp.
-I guess I can see the argument that they’re providing a valuable service to the community.
-Upon reflection, I guess I’m OK with them for that reason.
-HOWEVER, if this became a regular thing, it would be really annoying. I’d hate to have to start sifting through the forums to work around what are essentially classified ads.
-If we must have occasional threads like this, perhaps as a compromise, they could be locked, so that people could see them, but not respond. People who are interested in the position could pursue it via PM, and the thread would quickly sink down out of sight.
When I saw the original thread, I smiled to myself and thought, “What another great example of Dopers helping Dopers. This really is a community.” Apparently every community has its HOA-wannabes who will argue about the color of your shutters and the wood in your fence.
