Jodie Foster's Golden Globe Speech

Anyone see this?

Hey, I’m not up on these award ceremonies, but this was a very nice speech on what has been conjectured for years. Very classy. I love you Jodie, except that well…

… she speaks French better than you do and you hate that?

Oui. Bien sûr. Certainement.

That was one of the most amazing speeches I’ve ever seen on one of those types of shows. Clear, concise, poignant, moving, true.

That was your idea of clear and concise?

I thought it was kind of chickenshit of her to bring it up and then not dispose of the issue once and for all. But, it’s her life, not mine.

 She thanked, as she put it, “one of the deepest loves of her life” her “co-parent & ex-partner” of 20 years Cydney Bernard. No, she didn’t say “and I’m gay” because she didn’t need to.

I didn’t understand why she felt she needed to bring it up at all. I liked a lot of the other parts of her speech. But as for coming out - 99.9% of the audience doesn’t care. The people who do care already know.

So instead of advocating for privacy, just practice it. Shut up.

And hasn’t she been out for a few years now anyway? She hasn’t talked about it explicitly (as she once again didn’t need to do here) but she’s been thanking and openly talking about Cydney in speeches for several years now. I’m a bit surprised by all these references to her coming out that have been going around in the media in the last 24 hours. Did they miss something or did I?

Well that was interesting. Kind of rambling at first, and a little jokier than these kinds of things usually are, but it came around to something very nice and heartfelt.

Biggest surprise to me was that she had such kind words about her ex. I’d read that the two of them broke up years ago, and while I guess they’ll always be in each others’ lives because of the kids, it’s rare to see such (apparently) good a relationship after what amounts to a divorce. But good for them, and I hope Jodie finds a new love very soon.

Was that dress designed by Red Green?

She Seems like a nice and interesting person in a world of self-absorbed, self-righteous, callow, manipulative pricks. Fister came across as humble, human and very cool.

And to rant…I despise these types of shows with a passion but my wife made me watch it. I’d rather watch IBM hand out their annual employee awards as at least they are honest that it’s a business and the people there would likely be more interesting.

Incidentally, anyone know what SNL sketch she was quoting at the beginning? I had an idea it might be Molly Shannon’s “happiness therapist,” better known for kicking her leg as she yelled “I love it! I love it! I love it!” But that goes to show how out of date I am on SNL references…

Is that like her lesbian nickname?

“I love!I love it! I love it!” was Joyologist Helen Madden.

The proud 50 year old was Sally O’Malley.

“I just want to live a normal, private life”
…says the woman in the freebie Armani gown giving a televised speech at a glitzy awards show.

I liked the look on Mel Gibson’s face. May have been fake (actor’s instinct) but still nicely done.

when you’re in showbiz since you’re five, your definition of normal is different from the plebes. i don’t see the statement as insincere.

Never worked with her, always wished to. Close pal was the Steadicam Operator on “Nell”. Nothing but immense respect for her work ethic, treatment of crew and cast, creativity and craft. He says she is indeed the real deal. He had no sense that she took off her Hollywood Star face when she left the set.

Hey, they can’t all be as deep as a sheet of paper !!

She was “in?”
Well, you learn something new every day. Given the amount of thought I’ve given to whom Jodie Foster might prefer sleeping with (total: none) I can’t claim any surprise.
