Joe Rogan and his massive audience

I’ve seen a few suggestions on twitter that unless they can get Taylor Swift on board, Spotify isn’t likely to give anymore than they already have.

I do think she would be big enough to be a game changer. She’s not the only one who could be, but she’s in a very good position in being able to take people off the platform.

Still, I suspect that we’d need a bigger name than has already left to pull their content for it to get up to her level. She’s slower to react. It took her years to deny what white supremacists assumed about her. (Though, to be fair, no one else believed it.)

What did they assume about her?

But then…

Antecedents are unclear (to me, anyway). Whom does “they’re” refer to, in the above sentence?

Expand the quote Sunny was replying to, and obviously “they” are Facebook.

Stop pickin’ on Joe!

Joe Rogan is taking more heat, this time over racially, uh, unfortunate things he’s said on his shows. From ABC News:

“Rogan also addressed a clip from his podcast 11 years ago in which he talked about going to a movie theater in a Black neighborhood to see “Planet of the Apes”.”

“I was trying to make the story entertaining, and I said we got out and it was like we were in Africa. It’s like we were in ‘Planet of the Apes,’” Rogan said. He said he wasn’t trying to be racist but realized it was “an idiotic thing” to say. He said he deleted the podcast but that someone must have saved the clip."

Oopsie.

Wonder if he had some juicy comments after seeing “Gorillas In The Mist”.

If you’re interested, here’s a link to his apology, unedited:

I like how at the end of his apology he rises into the air and says “my podcast, my Dune.”

I had a coworker who wore a t-shirt with a slogan that I thought was pretty damn arrogant. Now I have found an actual use for his thought. If directed at Joe Rogan, it makes perfect sense. “I’ll try to be nicer if you try to be smarter.”
(Yes, my coworker actually wore that shirt to work.)

You’re going to love this.

Wall Street Journal: Spotify Strikes Podcast Deal With Joe Rogan Worth More Than $100 Million

Joe Rogan is taking his podcast exclusively to Spotify in a licensing deal worth more than $100 million, according to a person familiar with the matter.

The licensing agreement is one the largest such deals in the rapidly growing podcast business.

I’m guessing they won’t miss my subscription, but I cancelled. Fuck 'em.

You realize that article is almost 2 years old, and the fact of the deal has been discussed quite a bit in this thread, right?

Was this supposed to be bringing new information to the thread in some way?

Cue the link to an article announcing that Rogan now has a podcast.

I think @Projammer meant to link to this or something like it:

Joe Rogan offered $100m ‘over four years’ to leave Spotify for right-wing platform Rumble

Ugh.

Hardly anyone in politics apologize. One thing I dislike about them. I know they think it’s a sign of weakness, but I like humbled people who are willing to acknowledge they’re wrong, and set out to change.

Too often it’s a notpology = “I regret if oversensitive dumbasses were offended.”

“F**k you, I’d do it again” has a more genuine ring.

Problem is…Trump has taught them not to pay people what they are owed.

That’s exactly what I thought. They “offered” him this, but he’d be a fool to think that they’d actually pay him anything.

Joe Rogan being repeatedly fooled by charlatans is pretty much the basis of this thread, though.

People are saying it’s a legit offer, Joe. You should totally look into it.
