RIP Joey… you showed us what it was all about.
I literally cried when I saw the news on TV tonight. My hubby e-mailed me this link from work:
It has some more info on his band and how influencial they still are.
I had to call my radio station and ask the DJ if she’d play a Ramones song at some point, and she was nice enough to spend the last 13 minutes of her dance-track show playing “I Wanna Be Sedated” and other classics.
Upon hearing about his cancer last month, I decided to do a Ramones special in August (I’m already committed to doing other bands the next few months). And I’ve e-mailed my AP, Jeremy, about including Ramones tunes on our playlist for this Wednesday.
If anyone would like to make some Ramones requests, please contact me at p_marvel@yahoo.com , and you can hear the tribue over the web at http://radio.cwru.edu , which will be archived for one week.
If anyone has any suggestions for more tribute ideas, please let me know. I have to go listen to my “Ramones: Mania” tape now.

I wanna be sedated. Goodbye Joe.
Joey’s gone. . .
Ow.
Tripler
A rock icon - gone.
Damnit…
This sucks…
Yeah, it sucks.
But at the same time, I’m now cranking “I Don’t Wanna Walk Around With You” and basically dancing like an idiot.
Adios, amigo.
Heaven just got a little cooler…
Damn that sucks.
I’m going to go play some now.
I met her at the Burger King
Fell in love by the soda machine
God they were great!
Curious fact #356: Did you know that, on their first album, the bass was recorded on the left channel only, and the guitar was recorded on the right channel only? Pretty neat effect.
I’ll miss you, Joey.
Man, that’s such a bummer. I remember hearing The Ramones for the first time in 1980. They and the whole New York/London/West coast punk scene SAVED ROCK&ROLL when it was getting really fucked up by atr-rock, disco, etc. Thanks for everything, Joey. Beat on the brat with a baseball bat!
Joey and my old man, by the same illness. I wonder what they’ll talk about.
I’ll miss them both.
Hear hear! I’m proud to say I also damaged my hearing for the Ramones.
There’s just something about a man who could reduce every vowel in the English language to a schwa.
I remember you.
I remember lying awake at night
And thinking just of you
But things don’t last forever
And somehow baby
They never really do.
‘‘They changed the world of music. They rescued rock and roll from pretentiousness and unnecessary adornments,’’
Damn righteous words that. The Ramones slapped the face of music with ear shattering riffs and speed boiling tracks. Think of it, you were in the days of high disco where everything had a fruity sound and these young punks looking exactly the same come flying at you. They were raw and harsh and could barely hold together, but damn they were good. Their first set at CBGB lasted a whole 20 minutes and left many shaking their heads in wonder at what they had beheld.
They never caved, holding fast to beliefs that rock should be played as fast and as brutal as it could be. No techno beats, no synthesizers, just all out pure rock and roll at its best.
It’s rock and roll that you gear yourself with when fighting a battle, or working out, or just doing anything extreme. I know of one skateboarder who would not do anything on a ramp unless “Bliztkreig Bop” was pounding in his ears. I myself use their entire first album when I work out.
They weathered the years, outlasting many “geniuses” who said they were nothing. Putting out one or two records and always doing a show somewhere. I saw them at the Starlight Bowl 3 times, the Palladium twice and all those shows were absolute brilliance. You got what you paid for.
And now, the “daddy” of punk rock lives no more. I posted about a month ago that Joey was ill and knew his sickness was a bad one. I heard about his death this morning and cursed a blue streak flying down the freeway. Joey was the man, a heyday to my youth and someone I could depend on to cheer me up with a simple ‘1234’ and a wide stance over a mike. And now the king is dead.
Scarecrow, you gave it good and and you gave it well. Long may your name echo in the hearts of rock and roll’s mind. You will never be forgotten by this fan.
Raise a glass tonight to him.
You know, I got the same reaction out of my kids that the parents on that new show Grounded for Life got when they took their kids to see them.
Not too long ago they showed Rock and Roll High School on VH1, and my kids just didn’t get it.
This is sad.
I missed the real Ramones scene by several years. But Joey and the rest made me proud to be who I was in high school. I only wish I could have honored him and his memory by being more of a punk. He will not be forgotten.
I had the honor of seeing and hearing him in concert about 6 years ago.
I just know he’s wearin his sunglasses up there.
I came about six inches from plowing my car into the back of a pickup truck on the drive to work today when the DJ said Joey had died. I was that stunned.
Tonight, I’m gonna dig out those old shredded jeans and those triple black ditty-bop shades and raise a glass or three to one of the men who taught me by example that if you master the basics, there ain’t a lot of need for the frills.
The house band in hell just got a damn good front man.
“I remember you oo-oo-oo…but things don’t last forever.”
Goodbye, my man.
Play them three chords, the only ones that count, and play them LOUD! Just like you knew it was supposed to be. And thanks for showing us that.
You was ugly, and you was beautiful.
Let me in, "K?
Love ya, Joey.
Peace, finally.

The lyrics from another (non-Ramones) song apply here:
“If you believe in forever
Then life is just a one-night stand.
If there’s a rock-and-roll heaven
Well you know they’ve got a hell of a band.”
I completely agree. Goodbye Joey.
Goodbye Joey – we’ll miss you.
Long live Rock & Roll.
