NEW YORK (AP) — Singer Joey Ramone, the punk rock icon whose signature yelp melded with the Ramones’ three-chord thrash to launch an explosion of bands like the Clash and the Sex Pistols, died Sunday. He was 49.¶
Ramone, the gangly lead singer with the leather jacket, tinted glasses and permanently-torn jeans, was hospitalized in March 2001 with lymphoma. His death was confirmed Sunday by Arturo Vega, the Ramone’s longtime artistic director.
Damn, damn, damn. I guess it’s gonna be nostalgia time at my house tonight. Between him and Kirsty MacColl, it’s been a bad year for rock fans. See ya, Joey, and thanks for all the memories.
Man, that sucks. I was sure the Ramones would come around just one more time. They used to play around here 4-5 times a year, and I usually skipped it figuring I would see them next time.
Oh Man…I saw the Ramones thrice during their heyday, and they were the only band that truly gave me hearing loss for a week at a time . It was worth it, too.
Ain’t nobody gonna fill those black Converse.
RIP, Joey; didn’t expect it. I always though ya’d be the Tony Bennett of 2020.
