jogging your memory

Recently I’ve begun a running program, and I’ve been wondering about the following question. I know running is fairly stressful on the knees and other joints, but has all that jostling and biomechanical stress ever been shown to cause any damage to the brain? Have there ever been any studies on the long term effects of running on cognitive preformance or memory? I’d kind of like to preserve what I can…:).


My guess is that it would probably be good for memory, since it will increase the blood flow.

The brain does have some natural cushioning in there, so I wouldn’t worry about it unless part of your warm-up and post-run routine is repeatedly smacking your head into a wall. Or unless you’re very uncoordinated and keep falling on your head. Or…well, you get the picture.
