John Kerry won both a Bronze and a Silver Star, kaylasdad99. This web page will give you information about the Silver Star itself and Kerry’s war record, including information on how he won each medal. It was in fact the Silver Star that was awarded to Kerry for the incident that’s being slimed, although how far this shit will travel, given the chief flinger’s admission that he signed an affidavit knowing it was false, remains to be seen.
Both. He won the Bronze Star for pulling that dude out of the water while under heavy fire. He won the Silver for beaching his boat and chasing down and whacking a VC who had fired a rocket launcher at him and his crew.
Both incidents are being slimed by these animals, but for some reason everybody who actually witnessed these incidents backs up Kerry.
Those fuckers at HumanEvents haven’t sent me my sample chapter, but they sure as hell have sent me some spam
Assholes.
It’s Hans Blix all over again. "Don’t listen to the people who were thre! Listen to our right-wing spinmeisters instead!
Ah.
Mucho thanks to both ETF and DtC.
How can you trust a guy who can’t even keep his own name straight?
…yeah…Elliott…
Seems we have some more background on the author of the anti-Kerry book:
http://mediamatters.org/items/200408060010
i.e., a Free Republic regular
Sounds like a charming fellow. I’m sure his book is the height of academic clarity and honesty.
These people are evil, evil fucks. And ex-Nixon dirty trixster, a crazy racist, anti-Catholic Freeper, and some of the the top names in Republican finance. Sounds like a winning team.
Another case.
Here is what Adrian Lonsdale said about Kerry in 1996:
In 2004, suddenly Kerry " lacks the capacity to lead."
Apos:
Jesus Joseph and Murray, are you shitting me? Are you sure this is the same guy? Because I want to be really, really sure before I rub the nose of…a certain male relative…in this, 'cause I will, yellow snow style!
Kudos for internet nugget ferreting, by the way…
Hmmm. I dont mean the Lonsdale thing, Ii]think* I’ve heard that already. But if these quotes from this Corsi guy are the genuine article…Katie bar the door!
More:
Hoffmann has denied that [his organization was politically motivated], saying his group had no links to the Republican Party or the Bush campaign.
Except that as has now been well documented, it’s almost entirely bankrolled by major Republican establishment figures as well as managed by professional Republican strategist Merrie Spaeth, director of media relations for Reagan and widow of Harold Lezar, a coordinated campaign candidate during GW’s run for Texas governor (the idea that she had no contact or relation with him or his campaign people during at least that time, as she claims, is beyond preposterous). At the very least, these are some pretty solid links with the Republican Party, even if they wink winked agreed not to coordinate their efforts with each other.
Well, that’s a wash, MoveOn.org isn’t “connected” to Kerry, either.
And Dopers of a morbid turn of mind might consider following the link offered by Apos to read a more fulsome array of Mr. Corsi’s…opinions. Its been a long time since I’ve seen the epithet “communist” as though it were roughly equivalent to “goat felcher”.
If anyone wants the sample chapter so they can read it for themselves. Send me an E-mail at dan@happyfunpundit.com and I’ll send it to you.
Sam, do you also have any literature on how all the ragheads are queer boy rapists that you could share with the group while you’re at it? Or anything on the subject of dangerous Jew influences on Presidential candidates? I’d certainly like to be able to browse through your growing library of literary lumanists.
That was underhanded, and I apologize. You’re just trying to inform people that want to know the content of the charges.
Yeah, but really, so what? A lot of people engage in activities that are clearly dangerous when looked at statistically. But most of 'em never look at the statistics. I mean, people who smoke are putting their lives at more risk than people who don’t smoke. That doesn’t make them braver than non-smokers.
Jesus, Apos. What the hell was that about? Seizure? Were you temporarily possessed by demons? Enquiring minds want to know!
As you said, I was just offering the only evidence we had. I offer it without comment or judgement. I’m still making my mind up on this. I have some theories about some of it - theories which do not discredit John Kerry. But I’m keeping an open mind.
The Globe today replies that Elliott’s retraction of his retraction is bogus.
All the while, Sam, you’re “keeping an open mind” about anything which might discredit Kerry, even if it’s something only Drudge has said and which has been refuted already. You have to do a helluva little better than that to even begin to be taken seriously, ya know.
I happen to have some if you’re really interested.
I’m glad that you thought enough to apologize. Good for you.
If this post is stale like Manischewitz, I apologize. Work’s been pretty hairy over the last two days.
Before I get started, I’d like say that out of respect for elucidator and his damnably amiable reply, I’ve been redacting like Karl Rove at a Carlyle potluck. I just have a few off-topic things to add, and then I’ll get down to it.
…
As much as I try to shrug it off, kaylasdad is right on the money: the dissembling really gets me down. Happily, though, bad behavior makes this medium nothing like dowsing. Here, you hit rock and you move on.
Thanks, man, that means a lot. After what I’ve said about The Hallowed 90s, any number of people would’ve crammed a thumb in my eye just on principle.
Your contemplative obiter dictum is going in my hat for a while.
…
I don’t have a problem with Commander Elliot’s regrets. The affidavit is harsh, and makes unverified allegations that Lieutenant Kerry shot a wounded kid in the back. I don’t blame Commander Elliott for trying to retract statements that cannot be proven. Similarly, I don’t blame him for hastily signing the affidavit.
A normal human reaction to being duped is to lash out. In 1996, almost three decades after the incident, Commander Elliott publicly defended Mr Kerry’s Silver Star. Suddenly, there is new information, facts in evidence that are so compelling that they would make a decorated, senior Naval officer retract the words of support he’d so freely offered during Kerry’s Senate campaign.
What evidence did the Swift Boat Veterans for Truth give to Commander Elliott? What did he see or read that would make him cry BOGUS! on Mr Kerry’s Silver Star? One thing is certain, this story is loaded to the gunwales with animus. But after all the smoke clears, and after the reckless acrimony is explained away, the bottom line is that Mr Kerry’s Commanding Officer still asserts “had I known the facts I would not have recommended Kerry for the Silver Star.”
The other item that’s been bugging me since Friday’s breakfast is something I heard Mr Kerry say on Morning Edition. In a nutshell, he claimed that a close friend of Mr Bush is responsible for the “unfit for duty” ads. This is clearly untrue, and for the last day I’ve been shaking my head about it. It’s the dissembling, you see, that really gets me down…
