John Boehner sex scandal

Oh garbage. In GD we deal with assertions backed by cites, which may or may not have a passing resemblence to facts, which usually simply spurs further debate. Non presentation of a cite in a case where one doesn’t exist doesn’t automatically invalidate an assertion, nor does your penchant for being noncommittally contrary.

I’m not sure a thread about an Enquirer article about a rumor that another paper may be investigating the possibility that the Speaker of the House had an affair is the best place to argue for the supremacy of hard facts in Great Debates.

Ha, it reminds me of an old Mother Goose and Grimm comic where Snow White and Cinderella meet. “What?! But I’m married to Prince Charming!!”

I inappropriately attacked **John Mace **personally in the last line of my post above. I shouldn’t have done it and apologize.

Personally, Boehner is my least unfavorite of the GOP leadership. I certainly like him better than Mitch McConnell.

Are you saying she “took one for the team”?

Only yesterday I saw an Oompa-Loompa porn clip. I’m completely serious. Pretty cheap though - they only did make-up on their faces.

What about when a lobbyist is sleeping with a Supreme Court Justice?

That may be the most sensible thing anyone has said in this thread!

No worries.

Thanks for the link. By the time kids shows appeared on TV, I was too old to have any interest. Still doesn’t rule out the fact that old age might well be the real reason I didn’t remember.

The thing about Boehner is that when he is good, he is very, very good. But when he is bad, he is orange.

Then you should be praying to Og that he does not resign. Boehner is among the fiscal conservatives, not the social conservatives, on most issues and is a lot more likely to try to work through legitimate compromises than someone who is way out on the (evangelical) extreme ideological fringe.

I am coming around to the opinion that for folks engaging in adultery, if they have minor children, then the adultery becomes a criminal matter.

I might give convicts of this (the males) a choice of 2 years of chemical castration or incarceration. Still working on some apropos penalty for the women . . .
maybe a chastity implant of some kind?

One or two high profile convictions, and I bet we see a BIG drop in this problem, especially if DAs engage in prosecuting the big names first.

Yeah, because humans have shown over and over that they’re really good a controlling their sex impulses. Same with drugs. Just make it illegal, and… problem solved!!

But a zealot isn’t going to be able to get anything actually done to advance the agenda. A self-described “adult” like Boehner is going to give them something as part of a compromise, and that does advance the reactionary agenda. We might actually be better off with a feckless extremist as Speaker.

I wouldn’t want him to resign, just like I didn’t want Larry Craig to resign. He was duly elected and he didn’t break any laws. It’s always the conservatives who pressure these Republicans to resign, not the liberals. It’s worse for the Republicans politically to have these people in seats than it is for them to resign.

But, why? What is the justification? What good would that serve?

If that is true ,I hate to think what more conservative must mean. His votes are telling. The ACLU rates him at 28n percent. Boehner voted for
Constitutional amendment to prevent flag desecration
Ending preferential treatment for blacks admissions into college
Constitutional amendment to define marriage as between man and woman
preventing gay adoptions
And many others. HRC rates his gay stance at 0 percent
the ACLU rates him at 28 percent
This guy is not extreme?

He is not extreme.

While he has voted the party line on a number of those issues, (which is probably a rather valid representation of his district back in Ohio), he has not been out front pushing that agenda.

Note that as Speaker, he has focused almost exclusively on the economy without pushing any of the social issues so dear to the Religious Right. He has said all the “right things” (from the Religious Right’s perspective), but he has not actually made any effort to push the legislation and has not taken the initiative to promote those themes in the media.

Think of the children.

That’s a different crime.

Seriously: it’s totally horrible, draconian idea. Chemical castration doesn’t do what you think it does, and it wouldn’t be a deterrent because people just don’t think that far ahead when they’re cheating. I guess we’re lucky that the adulterous politicians would stop it from ever happening.

His votes tell all. You are buying his disavowal of being behind those issues while voting for each and every one of them. What you say is less important than what you do.
