Well when it comes to “legal” things like this, the proper thing to do is lie, because they can’t prove that you are lying. Sad, but true. It’s law fun?
I use to feel the same way, but after one local (quite successful) commercial contractor’s wife was brought up on charges for embezzling thousands of dollars from an elementary school PTA fund she managed, where she was the treasurer, I’m not as sure in confidently stating that people always know exactly what their spouse is doing. She was also cheating on him, and was rumored to possibly have a heavy duty substance addiction problem.
I know the contractor and he’s no dummy, and there’s no way he would allow this to happen if he knew about it. He employs dozens of people, and builds projects worth millions of dollars. As it was he paid the PTA with a check to cover the (now ex) wife’s debt and the PTA decided not to prosecute, but the state may still go after her.
