If the reporting is right about Fetterman’s mental state and capabilities, then I predict Fetterman will limp through his term and not run again. At best it seems like he really, really doesn’t like being a senator.

ICE is being horribly abused by the Trump Admin at this time. That doesn’t mean that border enforcement isn’t important or that we should completely abolish the agency that does it. That’s just stupid.

It’s an embarrassment for Daily Kos that they quoted his tweet opposing abolishment of ICE and then tried to pretend he said something entirely different.

Nope. Read again. Fetterman is saying “but we need something like ICE”. I am saying, sure, but make sure it’s not THIS. Don’t just say “no”, give me an alternative.
Is Fetterman speaking out against the thuggery of ICE? If he’s only defending them, then it’s entirely reasonable to presume he supports their thuggery.
The alternative is ICE as it was before Trump, or its pre-Department of Homeland Security incarnation, INS. Neither of which had any of the objectionable properties listed above.

Excellent then let him say so. It’s fine to say, as he DID, that he does not approve of what is being done, but when the structure itself has been corrupted, you should not look like you are defending it.
He’s said that ICE should only go after criminals, as quoted above. He’s also come out very strongly against things like the effort to repeal birthright citizenship.
By definition, aren’t all undocumented immigrants criminals? That seems to be their thinking when they apprehend immigrants coming out of immigration court. It seems like their only “crime” is not having their immigration status approved.
They are only going after criminals, just any anyone in the Trump administration.

Saying “law-abiding” is way to vague. Migrants are being apprehended for all kinds of minor crimes. For instance:
Fetterman is a politician. He has to understand what he says is delivering a message. If he means that only violent criminals should be rounded up, then he needs to say that. As it is, it’s not clear what he means. And he doesn’t come out against the extremely heavy handed and violent way that ICE is apprehending immigrants. It would have been great if he could have related how he would have felt if his wife’s family was treated like this when she was 7-years-old. If her mom came out of her immigration hearing after being denied, how would he have felt if ICE rounded up her and all her kids and sent them back to Brazil simply because her hearing was denied or she had a traffic ticket? Something like that is what a politician needs to do. The clumsy way he delivered his message made things worse and doesn’t bode well for his political future as a Democrat.
Fetterman is normalizing government terrorism. That is not acceptable, and there is absolutely no excuse or defense of it. Trying to defend Fetterman for it is also deplorable.
AIUI undocumented status by itself alone is a civil/administrative violation and it’s aspects of how you entered, what have you done after you entered, how have you prevented your detection and removal, that may be criminal offenses. But I am willing to be corrected.
