Or his wife is an alien made of elm trees and tennis balls who is allergic to the smell of purple which happens to be John’s favorite book mark. Speculation is fun.
Given some of the comments that I saw on Twitter last week, I’d just like to know more about the cross-section of interests for someone who knows who John Mulaney is, but doesn’t know who Olivia Munn is? Like, what is their get-down?
Well, I guess you’d be a perfect candidate to answer the question, then, because I personally don’t grok: what sort of interests do you have, that would lead you to know who he is, but not who she is? Because, obviously mileage varies, but I feel like she’s more famous than he is, by an order of magnitude.
I barely know who OM is. The only reason I know anything about her is because she’s attractive, which gets her picture posted in memes and stuff on the internet. I don’t think I’ve ever seen her act in anything. But I know who JM is very well because he’s hilarious and I enjoy his work on SNL and his standup routines.
Why would anyone know who anyone is? I do feel she is covered in the media a lot more than Mulaney is. She dated Aaron Rogers for several years which put her in the spotlight. Very recently she has been very vocal about anti-Asian violence and Asian inclusion in Hollywood (her mother was a Vietnamese refugee) and that has put her in the spotlight.
I’m pretty geeky, if that’s what you mean. I’ve read most X-men comics between 1970-1995 and some later runs. Apocalypse was not good and I don’t remember it other than noting that Fassbender somehow elevates every role given to him. I looked this lady up. She is not familiar to me. Psylocke is not one of my favorites because of the way she’s been used for fanservice even against character. So it’s possible I overlooked her out of sheer irritation.
On the flip side, I love stand up comedy and have listened to countless interviews with comedians. They fascinate me. John Mulaney is one of my favorites.
Fair enough. I’m almost exactly the opposite: I’ve never watched an episode of SNL, and I’m not really into standup, so I only know who Mulaney from internet memes, whereas I’ve seen several movies and TV shows that Olivia Munn has been in. Plus I was a fairly heavy gamer, when I was younger, who just so happens to be in the right age demographic that her run on G4 network was relevant to my interests.
Again, fair enough, and thank you for the reply. My response to you would mostly be a copy/paste of my reply to @filmore, although, as a cishet male, I’m sure you can imagine that I don’t quite have the same perspective about fanservice as you.
Some superoes have sexiness as endemic to their character. Like Emma Frost or She-Hulk. I’m fine with that. It bugs me when sexiness is foisted upon them. Psylocke was originally a modest Englishwoman and then they made her Asian and sexy, which has its own issues. So that’s my personal feeling.
@Reluctant_A seems to think if you know who one of them is you should know who the other is. I don’t see that kind of overlap with those two. I don’t remember when I first heard of Olivia Munn but her name is somehow unique enough for me to remember. If Mulaney wasn’t on SNL I wouldn’t have known his name.
That’s not quite right. What @Reluctant_A thinks is that Olivia Munn is rather more famous than John Mulaney is (I could be wrong?), so I was struggling to understand why someone would be familiar with the less famous person in a relationship, but not familiar with the more famous person, and I was interested in learning what sort of interests such a person would have?
From my point of view, it would be like knowing who Carl Dean is, but not who Dolly Parton is. Obviously, Mulaney is more famous than Dean, and Munn is much less famous than Dolly but, still…
