I went to Kenwood school in Chicago in Hyde Park in the late 40s and early 50s. I sort of remember a guy in my class who told me his grandfather owned the Stevens Hotel. I think. According to recent obits, that boy could have been related to the late justice. I wonder if it was his son? Any ideas? I would almost guess that his name was John, also. No simple searching tells me enough to go on. Anyone have any ideas?
Yes. According to ABC news
He is survived by his children, Elizabeth Jane Sesemann and Susan Roberta Mullen, nine grandchildren: Kathryn, Christine, Edward, Susan, Lauren, John, Madison, Hannah, Haley, and 13 great grandchildren. His first wife Elizabeth Jane, his second wife, Maryan Mulholland, ** his son, John Joseph**, and his daughter, Kathryn, preceded him in death.
Wouldn’t it have been great if the answer was George Ringo Stevens?
I’m just waiting for Pope George Ringo.
Ah, thank you. So, some 65 or 70 years later, a retroactive brush with fame. Much like the time we were in a restaurant and were told that William “Refrigerator” Perry and his party were going to be sitting at a table next to us. They never came in, but that was another brush with fame. What a life! Thank you, Dopers.
