Ironically, that rule was instituted precisely because someone threatened to sue the Reader for libel after a poster here altered his words inside a quote box.
Really? Even though (I assume) that poster’s original quote was still available to be read unaltered in the thread? What a punk-ass bitch whiner, whoever it was. Aren’t there laws that protect obvious satire?
Actually, as I hinted at the time, I was quite surprised that Johnny Hildo was not officially warned at the very least based on the first thread he started with litigation threats.
No harm, no foul. However, since as has been said that rule itself was prompted by the threat of a lawsuit, it isn’t permitted.
What can I say, the guy was a lawyer (or at least claimed to be). 
And nothing will protect you from a frivolous lawsuit.
I can understand the Reader taking the measure to protect itself, I just can’t understand someone seriously threatening a lawsuit over something so ridiculous. I mean, I’m not surprised by it, I just don’t understand it.

I for one would rather not know what costumes people wear around here, with a few exceptions, but that would be a different thread.
