Joining quicktime files...possible?

Are there any programs (preferably free) that can join quicktime movies? I know that there are several that join mpg, wmv, etc. files, but have had no luck with .mov files (quicktime movies).

Any thoughts?

There is probably a better way, but this is one solution:

  1. Use Rad Video Tools to convert the Quicktime video to an AVI file.

  2. Use VirtualDub or your favorite AVI editor to edit, join, etc.

  3. Keep the AVI, or reencode to desired format using the appropriate software.

Are you on a Mac? I found a program recently that I think can do this (I’ve only used it on mpegs, but I think it handles Quicktime also), but it’s on my other computer, so I can’t get the name for you at the moment.

I’m working on a winxp platform…I tried the converter, but it seems as though the avi files are HUGE compared to their .mov counterparts. Am I doing something wrong, or is that the nature of the beast?

I don’t mind the files being in quicktime, it would just be handy to have them all in one file for viewing. Though, I guess a playlist file would solve the problem as well?

Sounds like you are creating an uncompressed avi when you convert. If you are planning to recompress to another format after joining, it shouldn’t be an issue. Otherwise, you might want to compress using a codec such as XVid.

Quicktime Pro will join them, it’s not free though.
