Jon Stewart and Charlton Heston on Ground Zero Mosque

Yes.

Yes. Also, FUCK THEM. Since when do we plan our lives in America based on what a bunch of ignorant shitbags halfway around the world think of it? No, seriously, I live in the Castro; I need to know when we need to shut the joint down because of what a bunch of Ugandans think.

I saw that show, in Montreal, the same time east-coast Americans did. You can fnid the clip at http://www.thecomedynetwork.ca/Displayblog.aspx?bpid=77100572-22be-45aa-afe9-963e72870552

Acually, you can watch pretty much all Daily Show episodes there. They’re typically posted a day after they air.

And the fact that there were a lot of muslims cheering the 9/11 explosions and the fact that muslims have been known to build mosques over conquered land since time immemorial are all irrelevant. Right?

Good link thanks. Recipe for a shit storm. Gather shit from all the shit sources and start flinging.

I think the idea that more than a tiny fraction of Muslims would hail this as a victory over the US is crazy. But to the extent that it makes any sense at all, it only makes sense because the right has gone out of their way to make an issue out of it. Now there actually is a “fight” going on about it, and if it is built, the “Muslim team” will “win”. But only because a bunch of reactionary jackasses have made an issue out of it in the first place. It’s self-defining.
As for whether this issue is a perfect analogy with Columbine, it certainly isn’t, and that’s not the point. The point is that Charlton Heston’s words were eloquent and powerful, and apply very well to the current situation. And despite that both Jon Stewart and I are liberals, we both clearly appreciate his eloquence and patriotism. This is not some kind of Michael Moore hackjob, in case anyone was worried that it was.

That is clearly irrelevant. I would very much like to punch those specific people directly in the face, but it’s irrelevant.

Also irrelevant, yes. (And it’s unclear to me that this is more of a trait of Islam than it is of Christianity…)

And the fact that some (so called) Christians kill doctors and some dance around outside prisons when people are executed and at least one has stood on a warship gloating about ‘job done’ when the cost in civilian life in that war was far greater than that of 9-11 is also irrelevant. Right?

BTW, there’s a Catholic Church across from the federal building in Oklahoma City. Guess what last rites Timothy McVeigh asked for?

Had you been able to name even one, I would have given you credit. I don’t think one is a significant number of people, but the argument would have been fun. Instead, your number is zero. Wait, the fact that not one Muslim hails it as a symbol of their religion’s victory over America is significant. You have also proven yourself to be wrong.

Even if you’d be granted that there are a shit load of Muslims that somehow regard the building of this mosque as a “victory”, how is it relevant at all? Who cares what those whack jobs think? Should I give up thinking that peace would be a good idea just because I disagree with evangelical christian assholes?

Exactly. This was not an issue at all until some idiots decided to MAKE it “news”. And now that is IS news, if you really believe in what the US stands for, you’d better make sure those idiots don’t get the chance to fuck decent people over using made-up outrage and other fake appeals to emotion.

What else? Usually, things like this, there is some sparking event, some public outrage. Not this time, this thing had been in the works for months, and nobody said much. I’ve no doubt that some of these same people were, but they didn’t make the news, didn’t have politicians shitting themselves.

This has the earmarks of a media event, came out of nowhere, no fingerprints. Its just all of a sudden you start hearing about how people are talking about the Ground Zero Mosque…how cleverly crafted, a mass of lies stuffed into three little words. How come they were talking about it, all of a sudden. Who brought it up?

I’ve also heard people saying that it was always just festering beneath the surface, and only the humane leadership of George W. kept it in check. And that idea weirds me out in about nine dimensions.

PS: my spellchucker thinks “insluting” isn’t a real word. But you and me know different.

It’s a stupid point - it’s a trait of the act of conquest. When you conquer some place that doesn’t have you culture in it and plan on living there from then on, you bring your culture with you. It’s not exactly rocket surgery.
Zee Germans put up signs in Gothic lettering all over occupied France, Europeans built churches in America, Crusaders built churches in Jerusalem, Romans built temples to Mars in Hispania, and Ug painted a rad auroch in Zog’s cave after bashing Zog in the head with a rock.
Saying that Muslims have the peculiarity of building mosques wherever they go (like the evil *bastards *they are) is asinine.

You can conquer New York by buying an old coat store? Cool!

Used to be $24. Damned inflation.

First we take Manhattan…

Totally, dude. It’s already the Sultanate of New Damascus. Bet you didn’t know that, huh ? That’s because them Muslims are devious people. They conquer behind the scenes.
Oh, sure, they let dumb Americans believe they’re still living in New York, under democratic laws and protected by the Bill of Rights - but in reality, it’s Sharia all over. They don’t have to enforce it, they just know. True fact.
Same thing about the government - they make believe the city’s still part of the state of NY and act like Obama and the governor and the mayor all have authority and follow whatever they say, but the *real *power now is King Taffik, who owns a kebab stand near Central Park. Again. Only members of the Muslim Brotherhood of the Elders of [del]Zion[/del]Mecca know this. It’s the greatest con of all.

Be wary.

The Bronx and Staten Island, too?

Yup. Everything except Liberty Island, because the skin of Muslims spontaneously combusts in presence of pure Freedom.

You seriously need to do some reading for the facts. There’s a good link that explains how this crap got started. Start there.

It was falsely labeled the ground zero Mosque and neither is true. Whether you like the facts or not. Sadly people are manipulated by the barrage of false information. It’s sad and infuriating that so many buy into the bullshit and make it profitable and in that way encourage more. All aboard the shit wagon everyone there’s money to be made. It doesn’t matter if we’re inciting fear and resentment.

. The word Mosque creates a mental image of something like this. What we’re actually talking about is a 13 story building that will have a basketball court, swimming pool, culinary school, amd yes, two stories dedicated to religious activities and prayer, and AFIAK it will be open to non Muslims and may have non Muslims on it’s board of directors. None of those facts seem to matter when fanning the fires of fear and resentment.

. Where the hell are you pulling this crap from? Yes maybe ignorant Muslims who are as misinformed and emotional as most people protesting this building might see it as a victory for Islam over the white devil. We don’t combat that by caving in to ignorance and fear mongering. We combat that by standing for our principles , like say, religious freedom.

The more you look at the facts and reject the dishonest bullshit the more you realize it’s all fabricated and designed especially to whip up anti Muslim fear and suspicion. Is that what we stand for?
We have millions of Muslims in this country, Muslims died in 9/11 as well. There is nothing to be bothered about. That conclusion comes from looking for and considering the facts concerning this issue rather than swallowing the bullshit. Yes, people have a right to their opinion and their feelings but at some point we hope our opinions are rooted in an examination of the facts rather than accepting dishonest bullshit and being manipulated by the fear for profit crowd. We hope we aren’t willing and eager to let an emotional reaction to falsehoods overcome our principles and ability to think and reason.

and black people are good athletes and dancers. What century Muslims are you talking about? Would you say Christian nations {one in particular} are well known for invading Muslim nations.

Maybe you’re right. They’re pricks for thinking Muslims should have the same rights as other Americans. They’re pricks for not understanding their connection to the terrorists of 9/11.
Nobody pushed it through. It’s been going on for months as the private transaction it is and everybody involved approved until some right wing anti Muslims group started calling it the ground zero mosque and fanning the fires. It’s to our shame that it has dominated the news and so many have bought into the fear mongering. It’s like McCarthyism or the Salem Witch hunts mentality with Muslim Americans as the Communist witches. Sad and tragic for them and us.

Right , the plan all along was an in your face American white devil. That’s why the Mayor and the neighborhood Jewish and Christian leaders supported it. It’s a community center and was always planned as a community center so that different cultures can get to know each other and promote harmony and understanding.
Of course if they have a cooking show called Cooking for Allah I’ll boycott it. I’d also advise them against a basketball team named the Bombers.

{cue Muslim singer dressed as Sinatra}

If we can build it there, we’ll build them everywhere, It starts with ,New York, New York.
