I think he has the best comedy going on TV today. If you like him, but have a hard time catching him on TV…here is the link to the site. They do a recap (you just need realplayer) of the headlines part of the show. I love the little “shame on you” piece that Bush so uneloquently recites. They are playing it to death, but it is tooo funny. If you haven’t seen it…check it out. It should be up today at least under the “invading places” piece.
I suppose I’m one of the few people who think the “on-site reporting” has gotten REALLY lame. And most of the taped segments. Bah. They need to make the interviews longer.
That was some funny shit. I was heartbroken when the show was cancelled, but that last week of the show was GREAT! They did this wonderful Willy Wanka and the Chocolate Factory spoof where they went to a meat factory. WONDERFUL!!! That last month, the show was just irreverant and great, because he knew he was being cancelled, so he would just have fun with it, and if he did something wrong, simply point out the fact, like a real trooper “What are they gonna do? Cancel me?”
i’ve got the last episode on tape and a bottle of whiskey…I think it’s time to reminice.
The Jon Stewart Show had great sketches, but lousy interview segments due to lame guests. But I miss Three Minute Vacation, Talksho Jon, and Pez Dispenser Theater
But SO WHAT? It’s a comedy show - watch it for the comedy. And anyway, I find his opinions to be quite thoughtful, and I respect that even when I don’t agree.
But man, you’ve got to admit that he’s one of the funniest people on television. I just love the show.
Unfortunately, the remote segments are getting weaker. The old ‘crew’ isn’t around much anymore as their stars rise and they get other TV and movie deals. The new people either aren’t as good, or need more time to find their own voices.
But frankly, even if The Daily Show’s remote segments consisted of long unbroken shots of peeling wallpaper I’d still watch just for Jon Stewart, Lewis Black (also a vocal liberal, but riotously funny), and Frank DeCaro’s movie reviews, which are also hilarious.
You’ve got to learn to separate your politics from your funny bone, or you’ll drive yourself crazy. Plus, both sides the political fence say enough stupid things to provide plenty of ammo for both the right and left. If the constant liberal viewpoint on the Daily Show bugs you, take a break and read a P.J. O’Rourke book to regain your comedic political balance if you must.
But one solid aspect of that balance is gone, now that they’ve cancelled Dennis Miller Live, my other favorite comedy show. Waaahh.
Would you say he has more of a liberal bias than any other comedian? Despite the show’s format, he’s certainly not a news guy - he’s a comedian who’s presenting the news in a humorous format.
I think if he had a true bias you’d never see any of the conservative politicos on his program. Because he’s relatively evenhanded, they don’t mind coming on.
I remember when he had Ann Coulter on. He didn’t harass her or anything, and she seemed to be having fun. Of course, the audience booed her when she said there were no good liberals. I’ve never really noticed that much of a political lean in his jokes.
Now, Lewis Black. Lewis Black I hate. He’s not funny. I don’t get why people like him, he just shouts simple-minded opinions in an agitated tone of voice. Seriously lame.
I think anyone who likes Lewis Black has liked him for a while. His rants used to be relevant and hilarious.
IMO, lately he’s just been bitching about generalities that really just aren’t funny. I haven’t cracked a smile at his antics for quite some time now.
Jon Stewart, on the other hand, is my hero. I agree that the remote segments aren’t quite as good as they have been, but as long as they have Jon, Steve Carrell, and Stephen Colbert I’ll keep watching.
It’s Carrell and Colbert I was talking about. They’ve been getting more work on other shows, and seem to be doing quite a bit less on the Daily Show. Those two are the best. I also like Nancy Walls, but I haven’t seen her on much lately either. Those three and Vance Degeneres made up the best group of people on that show so far.

Lewis Black is good as a physical comedian - it’s hilarious how his eyes bug out and he froths at the mouth when he’s on a good rant.
He is in danger of turning into Andy Rooney, however. He needs good material to rant about or it just doesn’t work. The episode where he was ranting about Grand Theft Auto 3 was pretty awkward. His rant was about how reprehesible GTA3 was, but as soon as he showed the first screenshot the audience broke into rioutous applause; huge GTA fans, apparently. I t really took the wind out of his sails; the audience was against him through the whole bit.
