Jon Stewart’s The Daily Show seems to be in re-runs this week. Does anybody know why? I speculate it’s because of Hurricane Katrina and the situation in New Orleans, but that’s just speculation. Also, didn’t he do re-runs the week of September 11th, too? Is not running a funny show his usual response to unusually bad conditions in the U.S.?
I think the re-runs were planned last week, before anyone realized how awful the situation would become. My guess is that it’s just a planned vacation, not something caused by Katrina. Usually when he is going into a week of new shows he’ll mention upcoming guests on the Thursday show. When he doesn’t–as he didn’t last week–it’s a good sign there’s going to be a week of re-runs.
It’ll be interesting to see how he handles this tragedy when he comes back.
I’m pretty sure Jon Stewart just went on vacation. The same is true on Air America Radio for Marc Maron, Mark Riley and Al Franken: all on vacation this week, with their shows being done by substitute hosts. Sometimes hurricanes just pick inconvenient times to strike.
SInce it is a holiday weekend, he almost certainly a planned week off.
Oh, okay. I would have thought his website on the Comedy Network would mention it, but I guess not.
Definitely a planned thing; they take off several weeks a year. They’ll be back after Labor Day.
So when Jon Stewart plans a vacation, we should all hunker down and expect the worst?
IIRC, he was also on a planned vacation, scheduled beforehand, for the week of 9/11/01. I wonder who’s his travel agent? I’d pay extra for that kind of service.
He was also on vacation post-tsunami. Of course that was durng the Christmas/New Year’s time frame.
I look forward to the show all weekend, every weekend, and when they take a week off, it’s extremely disappointing. And as many have said, they do it often.
I hope he mentions this:
and applies a tiny bit of common sense to their Repent America’s logic. And I use the word logic very very loosely.
I was just talking to my brother about this. I feel the same way I did after 9/11 – that I can’t wait until Jon Stewart comes back to make me feel a little bit better.
