The Daily Show, Thursday June 16th (or lack thereof)

The Daily Show and The Colbert Report were NOT in repeats this week until an unexpected (unexpected to me anyway) absence on Thursday night.

What gives?
4 Day Father’s Day Weekend?
Reluctance to cover the Weiner resignation?

Just rewatched the “Moment of Zen” from Wednesday’s episode. Jon says “That’s it for The Daily Show. Join us next week at 11. Here it is, your moment of Zen.”

So, as early as Wednesday, anyway, they knew there’d be no Thursday show- so, it can’t be Weiner Resignation related (unless, Weiner called Stewart on Wednesday- seems highly unlikely).

So . . . a three show week? This is unusual, isn’t it? Do they do three show weeks from time to time, and I just hadn’t noticed before? I figured it was always either a week of repeats or new shows Monday through Thursday.

I was disappointed to to find the repeats as well.

I don’t think there was any deep meaning behind it.

John Stewart has a pretty full plate at the moment and might have just scheduled a little more time away from producing the shows. Maybe so he could get more office or appointments, maybe because he wanted an extra day of vacation.

Ending on a Wednesday is unusual for them, yes. It was probably scheduled this way so Colbert could give commencement address at Northwestern University on Friday morning.

FYI, here is a link to a YouTube video of Colbert’s commencement speech.
