That was a sincere Big “NO!”, just in case you’re wondering.
ETA: John Oliver would be an outstanding replacement.

Huh. I’ve got a related reaction: more and more, I find the only times he’s funny is when he’s losing his temper. When he’s not upset, he relies too much on mugging, bad accents, squeaky voices, and making fun of his lame attempts at humor, none of which I find very funny–but when he’s really pissed off about something, he gives excellent rant.
I quite agree.
Yeah, I disagree that he’s gotten sanctimonious, or that he’s ranty in any particularly different way (remember Crossfire? ). I just think his heart hasn’t been in it for a while. I actually thought he tipped his hand about quitting a few times recently. I can’t remember if it was with Bob Odenkirk or someone else, but he was semi-joking about taking something and riding it into the ground.
I’ve watched The Daily Show from its inception with Craig Kilborn and the appearances by Liz Winstead (and her father!). When this strange Jon Stewart guy showed up all I knew about him was from his appearances on The Gary Shandling Show. It took me just a few episodes before he clicked with me, and I have watched almost every episode since (and every episode of Colbert too).
I’d like to see Jon go out on a high note before he burns out totally. I bet this rejuvenates him - tonight’s episode should be interesting.
My guess is they’ll probably hire from outside, but from what I’ve seen of the current cast, the only ones I’d hand the show to are probably Jessica or Aasif.
I hope they back the money truck up to Tina Fey’s house.
Would she go to basic cable? For a billion dollars, yes.
And Craig Ferguson quitting his show, too.
Well, I’ll miss Jon. Fingers crossed for his replacement.
I heard Brian Williams is available. They already have that big talking head they would project behind Jon. And he is funny in that sardonic way I like.
I do still like TDS but agree he has gotten preachy. “They”'re not going to listen to you, and you’re preaching to the converted – just keep it light and let the clips speak for themselves.
I wonder if Dave Chappelle is ready to come back?
Heh, I remember when he was hosting the Late Late Show, and was merciless in calling people “has-beens” if they hadn’t had a hit movie or song in the last year or two. And now this is the first time I’ve heard his name in what, ten years?
I’m sorry to see him decide to go, but I applaud someone getting out before they really phone it in. (I praised Ferguson for it and Letterman should’ve done it AGES ago.)
I hope he goes all Craig Ferguson and does months of “I don’t give a FUUUUUUCK” style eps.
I see advocacy online for Jessica Williams, but unfortunately, The Nightly Show will probably (completely unfairly) work against her advancing.
Maybe Stewart is going to go over and do Brian Williams’ job at NBC correctly.
I agree. I hope HBO doesn’t have him too locked in.
But I bet they go with a woman.
Paula Poundstone. Based on Wait Wait Don’t Tell Me, she’d be awesome. She is very fast, like Colbert. This job needs that.
Kanye West says they should give the show to Beyonce.
This news makes me feel like I did when I heard that Jerry Garcia died. (I realize no one has died.) Who will inform those fooled by Fox ‘news’ now? Noooooooooo!
You know the remaining members of the GD have announced their big finale for later this year as well.
Very sad to hear about JS stepping down. I can’t say I haven’t seen it coming for at least a few months now (watch his reaction in a few interviews where it was mentioned that his contract was up this year - very vague, noncommittal responses), but I’ve seen nearly every single episode in the show’s history (CR too) and it’s kinda felt like, well, these are guys I spend a few hours of my week with.
It doesn’t make much sense to me to talk about who will replace him, just as it didn’t for Colbert. It’s who they are as people and satirists. In the same way Stephen Colbert created something new and fresh, and John Oliver is doing the same, I can’t think of anyone else in TDS family right now that has that thing. (sadly I’m not seeing it in Larry Wilmore, though I’m trying).
This made me laugh more than it should have!!!
