And two weeks later and still no update (not that anyone is obligated to, and are most likely obligated not to). I’m guessing lung cancer that has spread to the brain.
She’s in a coma and unresponsive. 
Ah, damn. 71 is pretty young to be on the cusp of dying (although perhaps not for a heavy smoker.) “Court and Spark” has long been one of my very favorite, most-played albums. I feel kind of old right now. 
I didn’t realize her situation was that bad.
It sure doesn’t sound good at this point. In today’s age, 71 is far too young to die: especially for an affluent woman.

Her website is saying that the report of her being in a coma isn’t true.

Contrary to rumors circulating on the Internet today, Joni is not in a coma. Joni is still in the hospital - but she comprehends, she’s alert, and she has her full senses. A full recovery is expected.”
