Calling any current Arab state progressive is a bit of a stretch. Jordon is less repressive than some, but still no angel. At that it is probably not even the most progressive state in the Arab world. For example countries like Morocco or Tunisia, for all their numerous problems, might rank slightly higher ( though in some respects that’s faint praise ). At least “honor” crimes like the one referenced above seem to be relatively rarer ( at least in Morocco ) and spousal rape appears to be illegal in those countries, while it isn’t in Jordan
