Josh Stein, running for governor of North Carolina, sent me an email

Isn’t that sweet? Maybe not so much, since all he did is beg me for money, apparently disregarding that I live in California, and have my own issues and problems.

What I found interesting is that neither in the email, nor anywhere on his website, does he say which party he is running with. You can surmise, by the fact that the dominant color on his website is blue, and by looking at his priorities (or find out directly from Wikipedia) that he is a Democrat. But it seems like a very odd omission to me. Is he ashamed of it? Is this a common strategy among Democrats in red or purple states?

The email appears to be genuine, not spam (in the sense that it really came from his campaign), but since he does not provide a way to opt out of his emails, it will be marked as Spam, as I do all unsolicited political communications.

I think politicians these days do not care where you live. Anyone can donate to their campaign and adding your name to the email list costs them nothing and just might result in a donation. I’ve done it on a few occasions to support someone in a purple state.

Can you tell if it is a PAC or his own campaign?

ETA: Stein is a democrat. Videos like this probably prompt Stein to reach further afield for donations:

Full Title: Can Harris turn North Carolina blue? The Democrats’ candidate for Governor Josh Stein thinks so

Yes, he is the Democratic candidate for governor in North Carolina, just as Mo Green is the Democratic candidate for Superintendent of public education in North Carolina.

Which means that a “Vote Stein/Green” campaign sign means something very different here from what it means everywhere else.

It is his own campaign.

If Harris has coat-tails in any currently red or purple state, I am more interested in the federal offices, Senator and Representative.

I get inundated with Dem congressional campaign begging even though until recently, I was a Washingtonian. It takes balls to ask me to help you get elected to Congress when I don’t have any rea ,representation there.

I have mostly stopped giving to politicians. When I have I get on a list and then get plastered with requests for more money. Not even in election years…all the time. Every dang thing seems to be a “crisis” that needs to be addressed “now” and the world will end if I do not donate.

Super annoying (and yeah, I tried the “click here if we send too many emails” and still got too many emails).

I too get a ridiculous number of solicitations for donations from politicians every day.

I’ve mentioned this before here, but the most absurd is that I often get two consecutive requests from Nancy Pelosi. First I get one that says “Terrible news! That’s why you should give money.” Then a few minutes later, I get one that says “Wonderful news! That’s why you should give money.”

Obviously, your call if and to whom you want to make any political donation.

I’ll just point out that Stein’s opponent, NC Lt. Gov Mark Robinson, is a truly loathsome politician. Among other gems, he has denied the Holocaust and said “Jewish bankers” are one of the four horsemen of the apocalypse; called LGBTQ+ people “filth,” “maggots,” and “what the cows leave behind”; said that once a woman is pregnant, her body is not hers anymore; and stated that transwomen should be arrested for using the women’s bathroom and should instead “find a corner outside.”
