NC Republicans, you are fucking cowards

For the past couple of weeks I’ve been getting mailings from the NC Republican party that detail what a horrible person Tom Bradshaw is. He wastes taxpayer money, eats aborted fetuses, houses ISIS terrorists, whatever… but his opponent is not mentioned. There is a little blurb that states they do not officially endorse any particular candidate and that they are doing this on their own.

The NC Republican party is a Jesse Helms legacy. They’ve been responsible for NC’s negative political ads for the past few decades. They’re the ones who made “liberal” sound like a dirty word. Usually, I can just ignore their efforts as sound and fury signifying nothing. I’ve been throwing their mailings in the recycle bin, figuring doing so at least serves the liberal ideology they so despise.

But it’s getting ridiculous. Every day it’s a new mailing showing Tom Bradshaw’s face in mid gape, making him look like a drooling moron, and reasons why he’s such a horrible person and shouldn’t be in office. Is this going to go on until Election Day 5 weeks from now???

This makes Bradshaw’s opponent (whoever he is, I still don’t know) look like a coward who doesn’t have the stomach for public office, if he’s unwilling to put his face to this mailing. Technically, the NC Repubs aren’t endorsing the unknown candidate at all, so it makes the party look divided. All they’re relying on is the impact of mud-slinging on the voter sheep and hoping the ignorant outnumber the informed at the polls.

I went to the RC Republican web site and filled out a complaint in a feedback comment field, but kept having to shave off words because of their character limit, which they inconveniently don’t state. In the end, I couldn’t say much more than “You suck.” I’m a firm believer in Hanlon’s Razor (never attribute to malice what can easily be explained by incompetence), but this seems like a purposeful defect on their part to exasperate complainers into abandoning their posting efforts.

So, this time I’m marking RETURN TO SENDER on the mailings. I considered tying them to bricks so they’d have to pay increased postage, but I heard that tactic doesn’t work anymore.

So I’m going to shout this statement into the ether and hope some of their online volunteers catch this in their hit tallies: THE NC REPUBLICAN PARTY ARE ALL SNEAKY COWARDS, JUST LIKE THEY ACCUSE THEIR OPPONENTS OF BEING.

Assholes.

Sounds like a Koch brothers mailing, not the NC Republican party.

Don’t blame me; I voted for Gantt.

And yes, I’m still butthurt about that election, TYVM.

Pretty much.

Does Bradshaw have a chance of winning? In certain states, don’t expend so much anger (though you live there so its different) because its wasted. The GOP is not going to get any senators from California and I don’t expect Democrats to do that well in places like NC.

15th NC senate district leans Republican, but not strongly enough to be noncompetative, demographically. I don’t know how this race is going, but a Democrat could win the district.

This is my district and it’s an interesting race. Neal Hunt has been the State Senator from this district since 2004. He announced his retirement and Jim Fulghum announced his candidacy. Fulghum became very ill, withdrew, then died just a few weeks later (in July of this year). So, the new Republican candidate is Johnny Mac Alexander, but he’s late to the race. The Democrat, Tom Bradshaw, is a former Raleigh mayor in a district that includes part of Raleigh and Northern Wake County. The district does lean Republican, but just slightly, and I think Bradshaw has a good chance.

Well, his opponent is a freshman state rep., so there probably isn’t that much to say about him.

Meantime, how negative can Republicans get in attacking a Dem who’s a career investment banker?

Their own guy is described as a “retired neurosurgeon”, which should give voters qualms, seeing the number of people with a neurosurgery background who’ve publicly embarrassed themselves in recent years (i.e. Ben Carson, Michael Egnor (anti-evolution) and Russell Blaylock (all-purpose pro-quackery loon).

At least it’s just a state senate seat.

Boy howdy, that’ll show em what fer.

I get those too, here in Arkansas and they flat out say they are paid for by the Republican Party. I think they are trying to capitalize on the idea that you will only remember the name on the mailing. I even caught myself saying the wrong dude is who I would never vote for. Because his name is right there.

I think you’re referring to Jim Fulghum here, who passed away a few months ago. Alexander, the new Republican candidate, is some sort of trucking dealership owner (or something like that). Hunt is the banker, but he currently holds the seat and he’s retiring. As far as I know, Bradshaw is a career politician.

Sweetie, that’s because you’re ignorant. Not only do we currently have a Democratic senator from North Carolina, but she’s heavily favored to win re-election. We may only have three Democratic members of the House from our state, but that’s due to some really sneaky gerrymandering.

NC’s really more of a purple state. NC’s governors have been mostly Democrats. Ever since 1901, we’ve had 24 governors, only 3 of them GOP. NC’s Dems are usually economic conservatives and have had grass root support forever. Democrat Jim Hunt was governor for 4 terms, while Republican Jesse Helms was senator for 5. Oddly enough, Helms and Bono were friends, proving politics makes for strange bedfellows.

Helms, as near as I can tell, was incredibly charismatic and a consummate politician. Sure, he embodied lawful evil and was a bully and a supporter of some of the most repressive regimes in the world, but damn could the man make friends. He even appeared on stage with the Dalai freaking Lama.

I don’t know that much about NC

I’ve somehow ended up on the NRA’s mailing list…I’ve considered doing that with the crap they send me.

I did have the pleasure of handing literature back to some Chad Barefoot campaigners after they left it stuck in my front door.

Note that this is from 1984, so this hasn’t worked for awhile.

Considering California isn’t having a Senatorial election for this term, I’d hope not! Great Reagan’s Ghost!

The only bad one I’ve seen is that AG candidate said something nice about ACA, therefore something something {bunch of weasel words}.

You know you’re allowed to not have an opinion about things you’re ignorant about, right? You’re even allowed to not post about them.

Enforcement mechanisms are lax.

The Dalai freaking Lama is a romanticized dick. When you look at his position on a lot of social issues, he comes out to the right of Joe Ratzinger.
