The Amazin’ Amazon may be coming to theaters near you in 2006, in a film (and this is the great part) both written & directed by Joss Whedon! All I can say is, assuming it’s true, it’s that’s about frikkin’ time!
I simply cannot believe that second-string characters such as “Catwoman” and “Elektra” managed to get big-screen treatments before THE premiere superheroine. But if Mr. Whedon will be at the helm, I’d say it’d be worth the wait. Diana deserves a first-rate feature, not a hack job like “Catwoman.”
The only obstacle would be Joss taking the job as chief scribe for X-Men 3. But given his own accounts of working on the first X-film, I think that’s not too likely to happen.
As for the title role’s player, Minnie Driver seems like an off-the-wall possibility; but then again, so did Michael Keaton as Batman, and he is thus far the most memorable movie Batman. I would have voted for Catherine Zeta-Jones at one time, but now she such a pampered “superstar diva” that I’d have a hard-time buying her as the female embodiment of “truth, justice and humanist / feminist love of all humankind.”
Just so long as Halle Berry is kept well out of it, I think I’d be happy.
No one can replace Lynda Carter! Not in my demented little brain, anyway…
But if a movie is going to be made, I think Karen Cliche (from “Adventure, Inc.”
and the third season of “Mutant X” – her character’s name was Lexa)
might be a suitable candidate. What do you guys think?
Well, it’s still “in negotiations,” so we’ll see. Keeping fingers crossed, though.
But casting? It’s a snap. Already worked with Joss. Beautiful, dark and sultry, with a backbone that makes Buffy look like a weeping wimp (OK, Buffy was a weeping wimp, but only in Season 7.)
Coming out next year. It was going to be in April, but whatwith too much competition, it’s been pushed back to September. Joss assures us that this is a good thing which shows that the studio is really excited and backing it fully. They’re thinking things out rather than just letting it crash and burn a la Fox. There’s something about it, including statements from Joss, over at Whedonesque
I’m excited about this, but hesitantly so. WB has shown no interest in bringing any DC characters to the screen in a way that makes any sense whatsoever (Catwoman, that awful Superman script that was going around for a while, there was a Wonder Woman script going around that had her as some kind of Sydney Bristow-esque character), so as long as they’re not hiring Joss to pull a Catwoman on Diana, I’ll be happy.
They might be getting their act together, actually, with Singer on Superman and David Goyer apperantly working on Flash, so who knows.
I laughed at WhyNot’s nomination for WW because I thought the exact same thing when I heard the news. I mean, c’mon, if any woman looks like she’s been blessed with the beauty of Aphrodite…
I’ve never seen her as a brunette, but I think Natasha Henstridge would be a great choice. She’s tall, has beautiful eyes, a great body, and has some experience in action roles. I can easily picture her with dark hair, wearing the WW outfit, using her lasso to tie me up… I mean… uhh…
