Journey on PS3

Wow, what an incredibly beautiful game! Has anyone else played it? I say “has played” instead of “is playing” because it is so short you are likely to finish it in one sitting. Still worth it though, IMO, definitely a case of quality over quantity. It’s more interactive art than anything, but if you enjoyed Flower (made by the same people) you will probably like this as well.

I particularly enjoyed the sand “skiing”; I could just ski and fly around and take in the beautiful scenery all day.

I agree, I enjoyed it immensely. I even played through it a second time a day later and got all the symbols so I could get the white robes (makes your scarf recharge every time you land). Definitely a fantastic game, though I honestly think it was a bit overpriced. $10 would’ve been perfect, $15 is a bit high.

Yeah, it is definitely worth at least a couple of playthroughs, to see things you might have missed the first time and/or to pick up some trophies. It’s also fun to go back to share discoveries with other players and show each other some of the more hidden stuff. I was surprised by how much I enjoyed the Co-op, actually. I’m not always a fan of hooking up with random strangers in games but there’s something about the lack of verbal communication that makes for a more direct and even emotional connection with other players and it suits the mysterious, spiritual atmosphere of the game.

I thought they remade the arcade classic for the PS3.
Nevermind.

I finally got to play this tonight at a friend’s house. I apparently chose poorly and missed most of the levels and ended up finishing in 30 minutes, but it was a beautiful game. I really want to try again. I only met one other person, but we did try to stick together. I thought it was a really cool concept for a game.

I was confused when I got halfway through the game, and hadn’t heard a single note from “Open Arms” or “Wheel In The Sky”…

Seriously, I loved this game, and have replayed several levels over and over. I love the fact that when you’re playing with someone else, you can simply recharge your scarf/cape by talking to each other, so that once you come across someone, you have a real incentive to stick with them.

And I’ve played around in the penultimate chapter for hours - what a joyous experience. And I’m not the sort to use the word joyous in any context, but… wow.

Once you’ve played through (or in this case once your friend played through) the bowl-like/circular ruins area right at the first level becomes a chapter select point, though it’s not really made clear that’s what’s going on. It’s really easy to just be exploring and accidentally stumble into one of the side “rooms” and suddenly find yourself skipped ahead several chapters with no confirmation (Such as “Are you sure you want to skip to this chapter?”) or any indication that’s what happened. Which is fine if you’re just playing a second time yourself, it’s just another little discovery: “Oh, THAT’s what the side rooms are for!” but the downside is it is annoying/potentially confusing if you want to let a friend play the game on your system.

Yes. Absolutely. Especially in a video game where one does not usually expect such an experience, which makes it all the more affecting.

Another thing I noticed/enjoyed was that because there was no dialogue or text, I found myself making up names for things as I went along. For example in MY world, the carpet-creatures (as they are referred to in a trophy) are known as “kites”. Adds an extra little connection to the game.
