I don’t think Moore understands just why he was removed from office.
Was he a bad judge? Or is everyone defining his judicial career on this one event? I am not defending his behavior, just wondering if his stance on this issue is clouding some really good things he may have done.
Everyone is cheering his downfall but perhaps he was serving the people of Alabama very well behind the bench.
Oh, I know he’s just going to use it for more grandstanding and the Loony Right has a new hero, but at the same time, it’s nice to see someone get smacked down. I hope he gets disbarred.
I don’t know his record as a judge, but based on his bizarre, twisted interpretation of the First Amendment (I have read his arguments before, but can’t find them now) I seriously doubt he was capable of making any kind of informed legal decision.
I have to wonder how this clown ever became a judge–he doesn’t seem bright enough to pass the 1st year of law school, let alone flourish in the legal field.

No he was not a good judge.
In 2002 he ruled that a lesbian mother was unfit simply because she was a lesbian. He gave custody of the kids to their abusive father. In his comments he said homosexuality is “abhorrent, immoral, detestable, a crime against nature, and a violation of the laws of nature.” He also goes on to say we should be confined and executed.

NYR407, Moore’s career as both Chief Justice and as a judge on lower circuits has been defined as “the 10 Commandments Judge”. This is not a media handle, it’s how Roy Moore wanted to be known and it was his platform for election. He doesn’t seem to have taken much interest in the regular business of the AL Suprm Ct. He has brought ridicule on the Court, on the Judiciary in general and on his state. It would be hard to see him as a good judge.
(by “regular business”, I mean the boring, non-headline grabbing cases that make up the bulk of any Court’s docket. Business disputes, motions, etc.)
But…he must be so SAD! I mean, I got canned from McDonalds a number of years back and I was beside myself. This really has to be the pits! (snort)
The quote I liked from CNN was, “he called a step toward ‘prohibiting the public worship of God…I have absolutely no regrets…I have done what I was sworn to do. I have said repeatedly that unless we can acknowledge God, we can not uphold the oath of our office.’” Maybe this guy identified a truly problematic conflict in our government’s semantics. We DO have God all over our money and public oaths, but we don’t want Him involved with our legal system. Could be that Moore was taking the high road by living a little-understood life of hyperbole. He knew all along that the “thou shalt nots” and religious morality in general have no place in government/justice. He was just making a point…he’s a hero!
